Getting straight to the point, the finished photo set of our Castorice × Aglaea duo convention photo taken at the anime convention is finally ready! Originally, under the high-pressure ceiling lights and messy background at the venue, I thought it would be difficult to capture an ideal atmosphere. But seeing the final shots of the two of us standing side by side, that unique aura belonging to the characters themselves is truly conveyed through the lens.
As a cosplayer who likes to be meticulous about outfit details, I cosplayed Castorice this time. The entire outfit is based on white and various shades of purple. The skirt hem features a complex asymmetrical layered design, with a lightweight white outer layer dragging a generous amount of dark purple fabric inside, creating a natural flowing movement when walking and posing. Headpieces, the amethyst chest ornament, and that large purple staff prop all took significant crafting time—especially the butterfly wing details on the staff, which were reinforced internally to ensure it felt substantial when held without snapping easily. To accurately recreate the character's pointed ear features, I specially customized elf ear props fitted to my ear auricles; paired with long grayish-purple hair, the twintail hairstyle formed sleek line extensions along both sides of my body during shooting. The white stockings and purple platform high heels formed a great White thigh-highs outfit aesthetic that nicely matched the character's body proportions, with careful attention paid to the transition between the white stocking material and the shoes.
Beside me was my friend playing Aglaea, who is truly a dedicated cosplayer. Her golden neck-length short hair paired with floral hair accessories, combined with her inherently striking bone structure, interpreted Aglaea's noble yet slightly lazy and resolute temperament spot-on. Her off-white long dress featured a Greek-style draping design, with gold waist ornaments and metallic arm rings serving as perfect accents, exuding a divine aura. Coupled with the prop spear in her hand, the moment she stood there, her presence was transformed completely. Our outfit palettes were actually quite complementary—my purple-and-white alongside her off-white and gold created contrast while staying harmonious, prompting many other photographers on site to point their lenses at us.
The location for this shoot was inside a large convention center; high industrial-style windows and hall structures were visible in the background, surrounded by various exhibition booths and temporary photo studios, with light-colored flooring beneath. Although the environment was somewhat noisy, our photographer and we managed to find a relatively clean corner with good lighting. Black studio lights and reflector umbrellas were set up on site; to capture the character's battle-ready or solemn vibe, the lighting was tailored to darken the background while brightening the subjects, which tested the photographer's skill greatly. Since we brought our own lights, we had to complete all compositions and candid snapshots during brief minutes when crowd traffic thinned out. Though the process was quite rushed, the final outcome proved that this impromptu snapshot approach carried a natural charm.
Speaking of character interpretation, my understanding of Castorice is a persona both gentle and decisive—just like the voice line: "Butterflies, bring rest to the battlefield." She appears delicate on the outside, yet holds resolute principles within. Therefore, in facial expression control, I intentionally withheld smiles, maintaining a calm, slightly distant, and cool gaze, demonstrating her composure through slightly turned standing postures and raising the staff. As a leader, Aglaea appeared more composed, holding her spear effortlessly with a glance reflecting confident control over the situation. Before shooting, the two of us even discussed positioning several times based on the characters' in-game dialogue habits, hoping to recreate the sense of bond between them to the fullest.
I was initially worried that midday light might be too harsh and create greasy glares on skin, but the reflectors on site were used just right, sculpting facial contours and garment fold shadows with three-dimensional depth. I feel the most interesting part of playing cosplay isn't merely recreating a 2D image, but briefly experiencing the character's personality and story through costumes, props, and facial expressions. Being able to freeze such a joint frame in just half an hour at an anime convention is remarkably rare, and every successful photo is hard-won. My partner and I shared great chemistry this time; beyond duo photos, we also shot solo action poses, yet the photo that best expresses our creative theme remains this joint standing shot where our auras complement each other. Looking at the final shots, the fatigue from cutting fabrics late into the night for this costume and adjusting wig buns dissolved completely—this was a thoroughly fulfilling and meaningful photoshoot experience.
