For this theme shoot of the sheep at home, I wanted to present Eyjafjalla's soft, at-home state after taking off her heavy gear. The outfit chosen was a loose, light-pink dress with a lightweight material, featuring crisscrossing brown ribbon details on the chest, aiming to restore the character's elements while maintaining an everyday feel. The wig is brown with a pink gradient; the iconic small hair bun on top of the head and the fluffy sheep horns on both sides are the highlights of the entire styling, as the plush material adds overall cuteness and approachability in front of the camera.
The shooting environment was chosen indoors, featuring white arches, vintage wooden tables and chairs, and black-and-white checkerboard floor tiles. To match the homey atmosphere, natural light was primarily used. Utilizing the soft diffused light filtering through the white sheer curtains not only made the model's skin look fairer and more translucent, but also kept the overall color tone of the image in a low-saturation warm palette. The use of backlight and side-backlight gave the subject's edges a faint halo, making the picture feel more dreamy.
In terms of props, books, a white porcelain teacup, white phalaenopsis orchids in a vase, and throw pillows were all excellent auxiliary elements. They were not only embellishments in the frame, but also tools to help the model get into character. For instance, sitting on a wooden chair reading a book, holding a teacup while spacing out, or hugging a pillow and looking out the window—these actions allowed the model to naturally blend into the scene. During composition, I deliberately had the photographer use some foreground blur, such as blurred flowers or curtain edges, to increase the layering of the frame and keep the focus concentrated on the subject. For the full-body shots, arches were intentionally chosen as a framing composition, and a barefoot posture sitting on the chair was tried to showcase the most relaxed home state.
Among this set of photos, I personally love the perspective of sitting on the floor facing the mirror. This composition not only captures the depth of the environment, but also wonderfully showcases how the skirt hem spreads out, which, combined with the barefoot state, better fits the realism of having nothing to do at home. In this quiet atmosphere, even the sound of turning pages seemed exceptionally clear. To maintain the vividness of the subject in the frame, we captured many natural moments, such as an accidental upward glance or a slightly dazed look toward the lens.
In post-processing, the transition of highlights and shadows was mainly enhanced to make the light softer. The overall contrast was reduced to highlight the warm intertwined feeling of pink, white, and wood tones. Eyebrow and eye makeup were intentionally softened, which, paired with pink contact lenses, made the gaze look gentler. The wrinkles on the clothing also presented a great texture under the light and shadow; instead of being overly smooth, they added a touch of everyday life breath.
From a professional perspective, a lot of thought went into controlling the lighting ratio during this shoot: it needed to ensure the brightness of high-key photography while preventing the frame from losing details. The soft furnishings and decor of the scene were also carefully considered, and the collision of vintage elements and cute styles unexpectedly produced great chemistry. The entire shooting process went very smoothly, and the indoor light became even warmer in the afternoon, providing us with an exceptional natural light source. I hope this quiet, lazy home atmosphere lets everyone see a different side of Eyjafjalla.
