[Gardener Cosplay] Identity V: Convention Log in White Dress and Cool Blue Tones

On the second day of the Firefly ACG Expo, this brand-new look I prepared for the Gardener was finally successfully captured. This time, I chose a white-and-blue color scheme that contrasts sharply with her conventional image, aiming for an overall lightweight and translucent aesthetic. The white lace top features off-the-shoulder cuts and ruffled designs, with intricate hollow-woven patterns at the neckline offering a much richer texture up close than from a distance. The hat is a classic wide-brimmed sunhat with a delicate row of pearls sewn around the edge; the sky-blue satin bow on the side not only serves as a color accent but also balances the visual gravity of the entire ensemble.

For the makeup and wig styling, I experimented with a noticeable freckle makeup look combined with light blue colored contacts, giving my facial features a soft yet cool demeanor. The short white wig required special attention to hair flow—it couldn't stick flat to the scalp, nor could it be overly fluffy, or it would affect how the hat fit. To ensure high-quality shots in a crowded event like the Firefly ACG Expo, we specifically chose the glass guardrail area on the outer edge of the exhibition hall for Cosplay photography. With a large expanse of green foliage behind us acting as a natural background, the 102mm telephoto lens and F4 aperture managed to compress and blur out the cluttered surroundings, focusing visual attention entirely on the facial features and upper-body lace details.

Throughout the shoot, photographer NightDiva patiently searched for the best light angles. Outdoor lighting at the convention shifted between overcast and sunny; to avoid harsh shadows cast on my face by the hat brim, we constantly fine-tuned our positioning at the railing corners, trying various poses like looking back over the shoulder, leaning, and holding the hat brim. I particularly love the finished shot where I lean against the railing—the arm positioning and subtle neck tilt stretched my shoulder line nicely, allowing the lace edge to form a natural frame over my shoulder while beautifully displaying the outfit's off-the-shoulder details. The front-lighting angle gave the blue satin bow a unique silky sheen, creating a lovely cool-and-warm contrast against the white clothing.

The fourth photo is actually an environmental shot I really adore. Although other convention attendees and railings are visible in the background, this subtly ordered composition artfully blends the 2D character into the 3D reality, allowing viewers to feel the vibrant energy of the Guangzhou Anime Convention at Firefly ACG Expo firsthand. As for post-processing, I personally participated in color grading. The overall approach was to preserve the tactile texture of the white lace without over-smoothing the skin, as I believe the texture of such fabric and lace is the soul of the costume styling. The skin tone was brightened for transparency, and the background greens were darkened slightly to make the white outfit and facial features stand out bright and prominent.

Whenever debuting a new outfit in person, there are always various spontaneous issues to solve on the fly. For instance, white garments reflect a lot of light outdoors, where slightly intense sunlight can easily cause overexposure and lose depth; meanwhile, convention crowds mean finding a clean background requires both patience and a sharp eye. Fortunately, this shoot went quite smoothly in terms of prep work and on-site coordination. The freckle makeup incorporated subtle variations in intensity across the cheeks and bridge of the nose, producing a much more natural, non-stiff effect than expected. I hope this photo set conveys the focus and dedication I felt at the venue.
