Brown Dust 2 Anime Expo Photo Return: The Cold Clash of Military Chic and White Stockings - Image 2

For this set of return photos from the expo, I wanted to document every detail from initial preparation to the final delivery. To match the grounded, atmospheric art style of Brown Dust 2, we bypassed standard convention hall interiors and scouted an open, semi-abandoned industrial factory. The cool-toned concrete floor and exposed steel truss ceiling worked brilliantly to elevate the rich texture of the deep-blue velvet coat.

The craftsmanship of this outfit was an absolute delight. Under the spotlights, the deep-blue velvet cast an exquisitely subtle sheen, while the golden braided piping and rows of buttons across the chest and cuffs looked remarkably crisp under the cool light sources. To temper the classical military aesthetic, I styled it with glossy White stockings and black strappy high heels; this classic clash of black, white, and navy forged a striking visual contrast.

As for props, the katana was undoubtedly the soul of the look. The white diamond-braided wrap (tsukamaki) on the hilt and the sleek black scabbard instantly pulled me into character the second I drew it. The hanging tassel charm seen in the photos was another small touch I added to enrich the styling with refined detail.

The shooting process was physically demanding. In the first shot seated on the stepladder, capturing that languid yet imposing gaze required keeping my back straight and leg muscles engaged so the lines looked sharp and clean. In the second suspended pose, while the final frame appears weightless and effortless, executing it demanded intense core strength; capturing the perfect spread of hair strands took repeated tries to freeze the ideal motion.

Because these are convention return photos, I avoided overly exaggerated soft-focus filters in post-processing, preserving the authentic chill of the raw location. The blue contact lenses were chosen specifically to echo the coat in close-ups. During retouching, I focused on accentuating the metallic highlights to make the garment details pop. Though exhausting, seeing that interplay of strength and grace captured in the final shots made every bit of preparation worthwhile. I hope these photos convey this unique atmosphere to everyone.
