Fulfilling my dream with this Houshou Marine cosplay outfit at the Firefly ACG Expo finally came true! The entire ensemble is dominated by vibrant red, bursting with the youthful vitality inherent to the character, which is my most direct visual impression of Houshou Marine. To achieve a faithful portrayal, I put a lot of thought into the styling details. First was the iconic red wig: not only did it need rich, saturated color, but I also carefully styled the bow accessories on both sides and the layered contours on top, balancing volume and airiness. For makeup, I accentuated the red blushing under the eyes and across the cheeks, paired with subtle highlighter accents to create a healthy, playful, and boldly energetic aura, complemented by pink lip gloss to make the overall facial expression more vivid.

The tailoring of the costume is very intriguing. The top is a sleeveless cropped red vest spliced with white lapels and gold trim along the collar, accessorized with a black leather choker, a jewel pendant beneath, and a red neckerchief featuring white heart patterns. These rich layers ensure the upper half never feels plain. The bold midriff-baring design exposes the waistline just right, visually elongating body proportions and flattering the silhouette. The lower half features a red-and-white pleated miniskirt accented with a dark brown buckled slender belt, giving the skirt lively layers. This skirt combination paired with a Nude pantyhose outfit and brownish-red zippered ankle boots creates a strong visual impact without sacrificing casual harmony.

The photoshoot at Firefly ACG Expo was quite challenging. The foot traffic outside the venue was immense, making it difficult to capture clean shots in such a bustling environment. Fortunately, we found a great spot in front of the glass curtain wall outside the venue. The transparent glass reflected the outdoor tree shadows and sky, making the frame feel open while providing a lovely cool-warm contrast against the vivid red costume. In terms of posing, I tried subtle gestures that brought out her dynamic charm—like resting my chin on one hand, sticking out my tongue with a wink, and making hand hearts while balancing on one leg. Standing on one leg truly tested core balance, but to present that lighthearted, buoyant vibe, I kept my center of gravity steady, matching hand gestures and gazes to capture an effortless playfulness.

Wearing an outfit like this always comes with small concerns—like the midriff cut catching a chill in air-conditioned halls, though the sunlight and outdoor temperature were just right for shooting. To keep the pantyhose fitting flawlessly, I took plenty of anti-snag precautions beforehand. Despite running around the convention, completing this Cosplay photo release was a success. Cosplay for me is far more than putting on clothes; it's an immersive experience. Through outfit coordination, makeup, and posture capture, I strive to convey the character's confidence and cheekiness. Seeing the final photos made all the preparation and styling adjustments completely worthwhile. The post-processing kept alterations minimal to preserve the vibrant red and translucent skin texture, because that vivid, authentic texture is what touches people most at a convention.
