On the third day of REDLAND2026, I arrived at the island's hololive (hololive) booth, finally meeting everyone as Houshou Marine (Houshou Marine cosplay). To capture the Captain's aura, I scrutinized the wardrobe nuances endlessly. Starting with that iconic pirate tricorn hat: the sweeping brim accented by the golden arrow through a crimson heart turned countless heads across the expo halls, though its substantial heft meant pinning it securely into the wig fibers. The cape features a bold black-and-red contrast—the golden anchor emblem over red on the exterior and golden embroidery against black on the lining looked exquisite, which, crowned by thick white faux-fur trim along the shoulders, instantly projected her commanding presence.
My personal favorite detail is the braided gold cord across the bodice and the multi-tiered leather corset cinching at the waist, which sculpts the character's canonical hourglass curves. For the eyepatch, I selected a black piece adorned with a golden heart, paired with scarlet contact lenses to mirror her anime aesthetic faithfully. Down below, the black booty shorts are styled with crimson leather straps and metallic O-rings, complemented by petite charms along the thigh so the metal chains jingle softly with every stride. The left leg features specially selected distressed, Ripped stockings (Ripped stockings) anchored by a red thigh garter, maximizing visual drama. The black fingerless leather gloves were also meticulously matched, right down to the gold-bordered prints and red buckle straps.
Material selection directly referenced the original illustrations. The white ruffled blouse required a structured, crisp weave to support the braided gold cords across the chest. To achieve an authentic, heavy drape, the cape utilized substantial, weightier textiles, concentrating the rig's load squarely across my neck and shoulders. To harmonize with the reddish-purple twin-tail wig, I accentuated crimson eye makeup during prep, striving to project an alluring yet dangerously flirtatious charm. While the eyepatch cords can dig in uncomfortably, staying dialed in before the camera is paramount. The custom fingerless gloves featured crisp gold trims and red buckles, making hand poses pop cleanly. The red thigh band and metal pendants chimed with a crisp clinking sound at every step.
At the booth, countless fellow fans recognized the Captain, exchanging cheerful greetings and snapping photos in an electric atmosphere. Walking through the venue across all three days, I crossed paths with so many passionate photographers and fans who patiently coached me on dynamic posing to best flatter the costume's silhouette. Even though wardrobe changes and makeup touch-ups ate up significant time, seeing Honghong three times across three days made every second unforgettable. Looking back at these snapshots now, my mind is flooded with the island's sea breeze and the vibrant buzz of the booth—I truly miss that wonderful time.
