On the first day of the May Day holiday, I attended Day 1 of the Guangzhou Anime Convention (Firefly ACG Expo) wearing this classic blue-and-white look. The atmosphere at the venue was absolutely amazing; despite the crowds and humid heat, stepping inside immediately swept me up in everyone's enthusiasm. Choosing to cosplay this character specifically for the May Day event was my way of bringing a unique slice of Hyrule aura to fellow convention-goers.
Preparations for this outfit began two weeks before the convention. The blue-and-white corseted tunic serves as the visual centerpiece. To recreate the character's smooth contours, the pattern underwent several adjustments—especially the connection between shoulders and ruffled cuffs, the layered hem, and belt positioning, all meticulously measured. Given the extensive walking required at conventions, comfort was essential. Brown leather gloves and a waist pouch add a sense of adventure, paired with white contrast panels on the boot shafts; the color scheme feels refreshing and looks great under outdoor natural light. The blonde wig was specifically selected in a matte fiber material to prevent harsh reflections under bright convention lights. The blue hairclip on the forehead and the elf ear details were crucial; after careful adjustment of angles and positioning, they looked natural without falling off during poses. To achieve an ethereal, elf-like complexion, the base makeup was kept translucent, matched with light green contact lenses reflecting the character's mysterious eyes, complemented by earth-toned eyeshadow to deepen contours—aiming for elegance without heavy layering.
Being at an anime convention, game-related props are definitely a major bonus. I specially brought a neon red-and-blue Switch console as my primary accessory. During the session, some poses involved holding the Switch with both hands to pretend opening a treasure chest, while others showed holding it with one hand to display the game logo. This setup made the photos feel less like static showcases and more like interactive moments bridging reality.
The foot traffic on Day 1 of Firefly ACG Expo was much heavier than expected. After consulting with photographer @Bacfanggeng, we decided to frame most shots near the greenery outside the hall. Sunlight filtered through the leaves at that spot, creating mottled light and shadows that harmonized wonderfully with the character's disposition. While shooting the chin-in-hand praying pose, a gentle breeze swept through the hair strands, capturing several lively, natural moments. As a cosplayer, facing the camera requires not only an accurate grasp of character temperament but also complete relaxation the instant the shutter clicks, allowing body language and facial expressions to convey emotion. Whether it is the serenity shown in closed-eye prayer or the tenderness in resting my chin while gazing at the lens, these portray facets of a character maintaining resilience through endless trials.
In truth, the hardest part of cosplaying this character wasn't the outfit itself, but learning how to compose myself amidst the clamor of a bustling anime convention. Surrounded by cosplayers in vibrant costumes, cameras flashing, and attendees passing by, it is easy to get swept away and lose natural expressions. Before each click, I took several deep breaths, recalling the character's gaze along her journey—weathered by hardship yet unwaveringly gentle and resolute. To me, the true essence of cosplay lies in this fleeting state of immersion.
As the afternoon sun gradually dipped, the lighting turned even softer. Although spending an entire day walking the floor and shooting consumed immense energy, reviewing the raw photos brought immense satisfaction. The makeup held up well, the wig remained properly positioned, and poses and expressions met all expectations. Wrapping up Day 1 successfully boosted my confidence for the upcoming Day 2 and Day 3.
Seeing so many fellow fans at the convention venue—whether gamers shouting out the character's name or visitors turning back for a second glance—made all the preparation completely worthwhile. That is the magic of anime conventions: bringing virtual characters and real-world passion into vibrant alignment. Under outdoor light, the blue-and-white fabric textures were captured perfectly, and the elf ear details stood out clearly.
