The event photo delivery for this Chengdu CD30 is finally here, and I can't wait to share this set of Touhou Project Reimu Hakurei Cosplay with everyone. Although the lighting in the venue on the day of the Chengdu Anime Convention was a bit complex, seeing the finished photos made me feel that all the effort wasn't in vain. This time I'm cosplaying the classic red-and-white shrine maiden, but the design of this dress adds many gorgeous details while retaining the original elements. Wearing the iconic huge blue bow on the head is really eye-catching, and the white lace and star pattern embellishments on the edges make the overall look a bit more delicate. To make the bow stand up and keep its shape, quite a lot of internal support was added. My neck really needed to use a little strength during the shoot, but it was totally worth it for the effect.
The layering of the costume is very rich; the dark blue sleeveless top is matched with a beige lace shawl collar with classical patterns, and the binding design on the chest and waist tightens the body shape, making the proportions look very good. What I like most is the sleeve design: the split oversized sleeve covers are covered with multi-layered ruffles, which swing along with the body when walking, and the inner printed skirt hem also has great texture. The long-handled staff prop in my hand is custom-made, with a reddish-brown pole matched with blue flowers and gauze ribbons at the top. The ribbons hang down very long, with a string of diamond-shaped small cards hanging on them. When shooting action scenes in the venue, the ribbons on the staff flutter with great motion, but care must be taken to avoid getting tangled with nearby passersby or the photographer, requiring the photographer to constantly adjust the capture angle.
In terms of makeup, I specially wore red contact lenses this time to restore the character's traits, slightly deepened the reddish-brown tone in the eye makeup, and paired it with long black straight hair and blunt bangs, adjusting the overall temperament towards a cold yet agile direction. I spent a long time grooming the smoothness of the wig, and the bangs were also trimmed to the most appropriate length to ensure it flatters the face shape well in front of the lens. Although there was a constant stream of people in the venue, I still had to maintain the character's state in front of the lens. Whether pointing the staff at the lens or carrying the staff behind my back and looking back, I tried my best to make the movements look natural and powerful. To enhance the layering effect of the skirt hem, I wore a daily petticoat inside the skirt, which helps support the curve of the skirt when doing turning and leg-raising movements.
Because this outfit is not constrained by long skirt hems or stockings, it is particularly flexible when posing for some jumping and leg-raising actions. The shoes are matched with a pair of platform wood-colored wedge sandals, embellished with blue flowers on the upper, which not only increases height but also provides stability when walking around the Chengdu Anime Convention all day, completely avoiding affecting the center of gravity of poses due to overly high heels. The floor of the convention hall is somewhat reflective, and full-body shots happen to capture a bit of reflection, which, combined with the blur of the circular ceiling lights at the top of the venue, adds a sense of spatial extension and high-end feel to the image. The color scheme of the whole matching is mainly blue, white, and beige, forming a great contrast with the slightly dim ceiling of the venue, making it convenient for the photographer to darken the background to highlight the main subject.
Because the sleeves are quite wide, every time I raise my hands, I need to pay attention to whether the sleeves are folded or blocking my face, and slightly tidy up my posture every few shots. After a whole day at the Chengdu Anime Convention, although walking around everywhere in high heels was tiring, meeting many fellow fans who love Touhou Project and being able to show off the costumes and props I carefully prepared in front of the lens made the whole process very fulfilling. Looking at the moments when the skirt hem and ribbons were flying while organizing the photos, I felt that the time and energy prepared for this character were completely worthwhile.
