[Reimu Hakurei Cosplay] Touhou Project Azure Spirit Dream fan-made design, Japanese-style studio photography detail sharing

A lot of thought went into this Azure Spirit Dream fan-made design outfit from pattern making to the finished garment. The overall color scheme is dominated by blue and white, interspersed with a bit of bright yellow for a visual pop. Since it's a fan-made design, I slightly adjusted the saturation of the color palette so that it looks more translucent under the studio lighting.

The headpiece is the highlight of this styling. That huge blue-and-white bow, paired with layers of lace, actually has quite some weight when worn on the head. To maintain its perfect three-dimensionality, a lot of support structures were added inside, and many hairpins were used for fixation. The angle needed frequent adjustment during the shooting, otherwise it would easily flatten the bangs in the front. The layers of the skirt hem are very complex; the outermost fabric has hidden patterns, and the skirt hem and tassels sway together when walking. Because the skirt hem is relatively long and wide, when sitting on the floor, the wrinkles had to be spread out piece by piece to capture that layered, heavy feel.

In terms of props, that string of golden bells is the visual center, connected to ribbons in four colors: red, yellow, green, and blue. When waving the ribbons, you need to control the force, otherwise they easily get tangled or stick to your face. When posing with the gohei and paper talismans, you must constantly pay attention to ensure the wide sleeves don't block your face. The small wooden box with writing on the ground is also very interesting; placing it next to you just fills the empty space in the frame.

This Japanese-style studio photography chose a standard Japanese room scene, where the mahogany pillars, shoji sliding doors, and tatami mats exude a strong traditional atmosphere. What satisfied me the most was the lighting. The photographer cast a blue cold light on the cherry blossoms in the background, and then placed a few wooden lanterns in the foreground casting warm yellow light. The alternation of cool and warm light and shadow instantly brought out a sense of spatial depth. The blue background echoes the color tone of the outfit very well, while the warm lantern light hitting the white wooden floor creates a tranquil atmosphere of nightfall.

Paired with white short socks and wooden clogs with red straps on the feet, the clogs felt a bit hard stepping on the smooth wooden floor, requiring slower movements to maintain balance during positioning. The overall action design incorporated some simple dance postures, mainly to showcase the ethereal flow of the wide sleeves and large skirt hem. Since it's the Azure Spirit Dream fan-made design, in terms of demeanor, I didn't deliberately imitate the energetic feel of the original setting, but instead tried a slightly calmer presentation. Combined with the waving of props, I wanted to convey the feeling of patrolling and casting spells in the night.

This shooting went very smoothly overall. After communicating the desired light and shadow atmosphere with the photographer, the quality of the raw photos turned out very well, basically requiring not much post-processing retouching to showcase the original texture of the clothing.
