Taking advantage of a break during Firefly ACG Expo, I finally got to shoot an outdoor set of this classic royal blue gown for C.C. from Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion.
To faithfully recreate C.C.'s iconic image, I prepared a bright vibrant Green hair cosplay wig, spending considerable time trimming the tips and adjusting the length of the bangs so it looked fluid and natural on camera. For makeup, I aimed for a porcelain, luminous base, blending reddish-brown shades around the eyes paired with striking red contact lenses. Wearing colored contacts for long periods easily dries out the eyes, but sustaining that deep, enigmatic, and languid gaze required relying on eye drops to push through. The lip color was kept glossy and radiant to soften the overall cool-toned palette of the makeup.
The garment's craftsmanship proved quite demanding. The royal blue fabric carries a gentle satin luster, casting gorgeous reflections under natural daylight. The strapless bodice was trimmed along the edges with gilded metal ornamentation, centered by an intricate filigree pendant embedded with pink gemstones that required careful positioning so it wouldn't shift while walking. The over-the-elbow blue opera gloves were another highlight, framed with gold edging to elongate the arm lines visually. The blue choker on the neck also had to be aligned perfectly, otherwise it would appear askew in photographs. Because the dress features a high slit, wearing black safety shorts beneath was an absolute prerequisite for posing with complete freedom.
This outdoor session was staged directly on an open asphalt road; the vast expanse allowed the voluminous royal blue train to spread out fully, generating immense visual drama. However, the coarse texture of the asphalt was rather unforgiving to sit on, and shooting outdoors inevitably attracted stares from onlookers and passing traffic, requiring rapid adjustments in facial composure. Arranging the skirt train was physically intensive—smoothing out the folds section by section to show off the gilded geometric patterns across the fabric. The photographer also intentionally framed fallen leaves in the foreground, infusing the scene with a poignant autumnal mood.
Walking the floor at Firefly ACG Expo in this ensemble was quite stifling, especially with long green locks draping down my back, requiring frequent makeup touch-ups after every lap. Yet encountering so many fans of the series and exchanging thoughts on the lore and characters brought a shared sense of resonance that made every bit of effort worthwhile. C.C.'s persona is remarkably distinctive: she carries an unhurried composure born of an endless lifespan, coupled with an effortless nonchalance and emotional detachment, while secretly harboring profound sentimental depth within. While shooting, I continually reminded myself not to smile too brightly, keeping my gaze slightly unfocused and my posture languid yet gracefully extended—such as resting fingertips gently near the collarbone or chin with a slight torso tilt, channeling her nonchalant yet undeniable presence. Looking at the final result, while certain details could be pushed further—like spreading the skirt even wider or pulling the gloves slightly higher—the overall atmosphere captured precisely what I had envisioned.
