For this KFC collaboration event with Wuthering Waves, I decided to try putting together a self-styled cosplay outfit for Camellya's look. The first picture is the official character art reference for Camellya, featuring a white halter dress adorned with red ruffles. The overall style possesses both the sharpness of a battle girl and the exquisite feel of a festival celebration. For item selection, I referenced the white halter minidress in the second picture. The pattern is an A-line cinched waist, and the hem has natural, fluffy pleats, which perfectly restores Camellya's lightweight yet layered feel. However, a plain white dress would look too monotonous, so for the third picture, I specifically looked for a 7cm-wide pearlescent satin red ruffled lace trim. I plan to manually sew it onto the edge of the hem and the shoulder straps to create the dark red and pure white color-blocking visual focus seen in the character art.
I chose this satin lace material because it has a nice luster, reflecting light like candy wrappers or gift ribbons under the lighting, which fits the cheerful atmosphere of the KFC collaboration perfectly. As for accessories, Camellya's hair has a silvery-white base with red highlights, along with her iconic red bow and neckpiece. I plan to wrap a thin red ribbon around hairpins to create a headband-like shape, while folding a small ribbon bow myself to pin at the collar. Paired with a simple fine silver chain necklace, the details will be fully maximized. For shoes, I plan to use white Martin boots with red laces to keep the overall color tone uniform.
The difficulty of this self-styled cosplay outfit lies in the flatness of the fabric patchwork. Because the lace trim is quite wide, I need to slowly adjust the pleat density to fit the curve of the A-line skirt. However, after fixing the positions with straight pins and then sewing, the final result looks much closer to the character than buying a ready-made one. Since no complex armor or heavy items were used this time, the whole outfit is lightweight and breathable, making it perfect for walking around at conventions or offline gatherings. Although it took me two days to complete the sewing and accessory adjustments, seeing how closely the finished product matches the character art gives me a real sense of achievement. The charm of a self-styled cosplay outfit is being able to transform a flat 2D design into a wearable daily style with controllable costs and colors that can be finely tuned to your liking. I hope this provides some ideas for item selection and modification for other cosplayers who want to try this outfit.
