[Houshou Marine Cosplay] From Regret to Perfection: A BW Beachside Record

I have always wanted to fully present this sailor suit outfit of Houshou Marine. This wish was planted in my heart since last year's CPSP. Unfortunately, I searched the entire venue but couldn't find hololive's booth back then, and could only watch myself miss out on Hanasaki Makura-sensei. Although I managed to queue up for the autograph session at the Nanjing Arknights Only event at the beginning of the year, fulfilling my wish to meet the sensei in person, the venue layout was relatively limited. The resulting convention photos always felt like something was missing, a regret that I have kept thinking about until now.
This time at BW, I decided to pick up this costume again and rearrange the shooting plan. For cosplay, the compatibility between the environmental atmosphere and the character is actually extremely important. Although the setting this time was an artificial beachside pool, the color coordination of the light and props unexpectedly created a great chemical reaction with this black-and-white sailor suit outfit. Although the cool-toned overhead light source washed out some skin tone details, shining it on the dark clothes instead gave the lace edges and the white collar a very clean sense of silhouette.
Some small accessories on the costume, such as this sailor hat with a golden emblem and the black bowknot tassels below, were specially readjusted before the shoot. The combination of the black sheer mesh on the front of the dress and the golden collarbone chain reflects a very delicate sheen under the booth lights, which is also a highlight that many people pay attention to when cosplaying this character. To make the overall look appear fresher, I specially chose white over-the-knee stockings paired with a leg ring this time, along with platform brown lace-up shoes, elongating the visual proportions of the legs while preventing the black layered skirt hem of the lower body from looking overly heavy.
In terms of pose guidance, we also tried our best to align with the character's own nautical elements. For example, the pose of sitting on a beach chair and gently brushing the hat brim not only fits the beachside setting but also captures the tailoring details at the waist of the costume and the lines of the stockings through a slightly higher camera angle. There were also some small movements like making a heart shape or lifting one leg, mainly aiming to show the character's more energetic and occasionally slightly playful side. Although the entire outfit somewhat restricted movement due to the layered skirt hem and trailing lace, this little restriction was absolutely nothing for the final on-camera effect.
For post-processing, we didn't make too many changes, mainly adjusting the contrast of some warm and cool color blocks. The blue water-ripple background and the purple ambient light at the top interwoven together, making the overall frame present a relatively translucent and cool summer night feel. Personally, I really love the sitting pose set this time; the composition is very full, and there is no interference from excessive cluttered background elements, beautifully blending the costume details and the person's temperament into a single frame.
I have finally put down the weight that had been hanging in my heart. The feel of the convention photos shot this time finally met my expectations quite completely. Compared to the previous twists and turns, this result can be considered a milestone punctuation mark for shooting this character. Although I don't know what look I will meet everyone with at the next anime convention, the fulfillment of the Captain look this time indeed gives me more confidence and anticipation for future shoots in my cosplay daily life.
