[Patchouli Cosplay] Interpreting a Reclusive, Quiet Bookish Aura in a Corner of Touhou Project's Sea of Flowers - Image 1

This combination of a purple wig and round-rimmed glasses, paired with layers of a light purple dress, presented a perfectly natural sense of seclusion in the early summer hydrangea bushes. As a magician who prefers quiet corners, my expectation for this shoot was actually more about how to express that quiet aura of being "submerged in one's own world" through the lens.

To coordinate with this shooting theme, we specially selected this hydrangea field with a white wooden fence. The light blue and pale purple hydrangeas, paired with the mint green bow on my outfit, made the overall colors look exceptionally clear under direct sunlight. The material selection of this Lolita outfit was very critical; the ruffles on the upper body utilized fabric with a slight luster, while the skirt hem chose soft gauze with good breathability and drape. Even when maintaining a curled-up posture outdoors for a long time, the lifted skirt hem would fall naturally without leaving rigid creases. The hat on my head also underwent multiple positioning adjustments to ensure that under a high-angle shot, the shadow of the brim cuts a clean facial contour.

Because the setting inherently carries that intellectual sense of "hiding into books," I specifically requested the photographer to keep the makeup clean and natural, merely brightening the center of the face with highlights. The round-rimmed glasses did not block my gaze; instead, they became the visual focus of the face. Combined with that lightweight and breathable fringe, it looked a bit stubborn yet seriously cute. During the shoot, I closed my eyes most of the time, intentionally relaxing my facial lines so that my lips carried a faint smile. In the flower bushes, keeping the limbs relaxed is actually much harder than striking rigid poses. I naturally placed one hand on my knee, letting the entire body form a closed arc, which perfectly echoed the full and rounded flowers around me.

This high-angle perspective heavily tests the photographer's skills. @茶茶TEA7125 found a white fence that happened to be located at the back right of the frame, forming a great geometric division, which added a touch of structural balance to the originally soft and pastel frame. The wind happened to blow past gently during the shoot, and I could smell the faint plant fragrance of the hydrangeas. Cooperating with those natural contrasts of light and dark in the lens, the entire frame presented a vintage and exquisite feel like a book illustration. To guarantee the quality of the final photos, we did not use intense fill light equipment, relying completely on direct sunlight and leaf reflections to shape shadows. In this way, the dress's embroidery textures and lace details could be displayed to the maximum extent.

Although it looks exceptionally leisurely in the frame, in reality, shooting in such a gorgeous dress outdoors is highly exhausting. Fortunately, the openings at the cuffs and collar were relatively large, so it didn't feel too stuffy even when the sun shone directly on the wig on top of my head. The makeup artist kept helping me touch up with setting spray beside me, ensuring that by the later stage of the shoot, the skin could still maintain that translucent matte texture. Completing a tight shoot in such a serene environment felt quite magical; it looked reclusive and comfortable, but the process of completing it was full of earnest collaboration and focus.

I personally love this shooting experience of being completely immersed in a specific atmosphere. We often chase various complex actions and grand scenes, but in reality, just quietly lying in a sea of flowers and utilizing a few simple props can accurately convey the character's temperament. This combination of outfit and scene made me feel that the so-called "seclusion" is not coldness, but a kind of self-entertaining independence—a state of being able to get along amicably with one's own world. This sea of flowers, sunshine, white fence, and lazy dressing style together constituted what I consider a very successful visual expression through this garden portrait photography set.
