[Tatara Kogasa Cosplay] The Yokai Umbrella and Stone Steps of Touhou Seirensen ~ Undefined Fantastic Object

The subject for this photoshoot is Tatara Kogasa from Touhou Seirensen ~ Undefined Fantastic Object—the forgotten yokai umbrella. An outdoor natural stone staircase was selected as the location. Being autumn, dead leaves were scattered across the steps, which, combined with the cool natural lighting of the environment, perfectly fit the character's unique ambiance—slightly lonely yet hiding a lively flair.

Regarding this look, the blue-and-white maid outfit was carefully selected after comparing character settings. The high ruffled neckline and cuffs, along with the cinched waist design, give the overall ensemble a soft yet doll-like feel. The two black straps and cross decoration on the chest, though small, serve as the finishing touches, adding great depth and layering to the attire. For the wig, I chose short mint-green hair paired with reddish eye makeup; the contact lenses were selected to make the eyes look sharper and more focused, striving to recreate the charm of this anime character.

As for the props, the magenta paper umbrella behind me is undoubtedly the visual focal point of the image. Featuring a striking, giant "eye" pattern on its surface, it is one of the soul props of this character. During the shoot, we intentionally adjusted the umbrella to a tilted angle so that it could fully display the pattern while naturally semi-enclosing the body, making the composition feel more dynamic. Additionally, the vivid red velvet fabric spread beneath my legs echoed the red color of the umbrella, breaking the cool monotony of the blue-and-white palette and adding visual richness.

On my feet, I paired a pair of black platform geta sandals decorated with floral bows. This style of footwear fits the Japanese fantasy aesthetic setting, while the platform design allows the leg lines to stretch out more slenderly and naturally when seated. For the pose, I chose to rest my chin on one hand, looking quietly at the camera. Combined with the relaxed outdoor environment, this posture delivers a serene and storytelling visual feel.

The entire shooting process was actually quite interesting. The hardness and chill of the outdoor stone steps provided a very real experience, but under the photographer's professional guidance, I was quickly able to get into character. Regarding lighting, we avoided direct harsh sunlight and instead utilized soft, diffused light. This preserved the pure white of the outfit and created a wonderful contrast between the skin tone and the blue maid dress.

Although Tatara Kogasa carries a somewhat sentimental backstory as a "forgotten yokai umbrella," she remains very vibrant in visual expression. Through this dedicated outdoor cosplay photography effort, I hope to convey this atmosphere where cool detachment and wonder coexist. I hope this photo set allows everyone to see a character interpretation filled with attention to detail and passion.
