This time I came to Dongguan Firefly ACG Expo with completely new gear, capturing a set of highly satisfying convention photos. This was a collaboration with a girl from Shenzhen who specifically traveled out of town to meet up and shoot, which is a wonderful stroke of fate. For the shooting equipment, a Sony A7C II paired with a 35mm F1.4 GM lens was used. The field of view from this lens is very comfortable, establishing the exhibition hall's environment while beautifully highlighting the character. Especially the perspective brought by the 35mm lens comes in very handy when shooting long legs and various handsome standing poses.

The first high-angle shot is an excellent interpretation of this character's aura. The ambient lighting at anime conventions can be quite complex, especially in this kind of exhibition hall where the overhead lighting is very bright, making it easy to flatten the subject. Therefore, during the shoot, we deliberately utilized side backlighting to outline the hair strands, giving the long, curly orange hair a beautiful golden edge, which significantly enhanced the visual depth and translucency of the frame. In terms of costume, the classic black sailor suit with a white neckerchief, paired with over-the-knee socks and vintage leather shoes, perfectly captured the character's signature tsundere yet sharp temperament. The wooden sword held in hand is the ultimate finishing touch; whether propped on the ground or slung over the shoulder, it instantly immerses people into the character's presence.

A few chibi plushies of the same kind were also added on-site, which, combined with the high-angle composition of the first photo, made the visual effect incredibly lively and dynamic, adding a touch of playfulness to the originally somewhat serious styling. This time, we also experimented with utilizing the local stairs to create height differences, which unexpectedly allowed us to capture a distinct feeling, such as the candid sense of presence when stepping on the stairs.

In fact, doing an outdoor shoot in an open venue like an anime convention heavily tests one's ability to take candid shots and adapt on the spot. The 35mm focal length played a massive advantage here, allowing me to precisely capture the most natural and confident moments amidst the crowd. Coupled with the autofocus performance of the Sony A7C II, there was absolutely no need to worry about losing focus. The post-processing editing mindset mainly focused on reinforcing the catchlights in the eyes and handling the smoothness of the hair strands, maintaining the clean and sharp feel of the original shots.

Finally, many thanks to the photographer for blending the scene and character so beautifully with the 35GM lens. Every time I do a cosplay shoot, there are always many new experiences. This is not just roleplay, but a unique joy of expressing the elements I love through the lens. Looking forward to capturing even more interesting themes at the next convention!
