The Shaoxing THO convention weekend was truly fulfilling. We confirmed the theme of this shoot in advance, which was centered around the atmosphere of Subterranean Animism, and the final photo output certainly didn't disappoint our preparations that day. As my first attempt at restoring Komeiji Koishi's look offline, from wig styling to costume pattern adjustments, there were far more details that needed fine-tuning than I had imagined. The main color scheme in the pictures is a combination of yellow, pink, and light blue. The yellow headband on my head with two long hanging ribbons, plus the huge red ball on my chest, blended very well with the light pink lighting of the set. Meanwhile, Komeiji Satori's outfit leaned toward steady and vintage, featuring a collar with black ruffles and that blue soul orb prop, forming a great visual echo with my red ball. We specifically chose this set with an abundance of white flowers and a stepped display platform; this indoor floral arrangement indeed fits Subterranean Animism's slightly enclosed yet inspiring vibe.
Regarding shooting details, we actually switched several positions that day. For instance, in the first sitting pose on the chair, I tried to relax my stance, slightly raising my head to reveal my legs, while Satori leaned out slightly from behind, reaching out as if to pet me or activate an ability. We practiced this action many times to maintain center-of-gravity stability while letting the cord props hang down naturally without looking cluttered. The small plush doll resembling a personified Komeiji Satori in my arms in Picture 1 was also quite interesting—it was a prop we specially prepared to add more interactive feel.
The second picture chose a classic side-by-side hand-holding shot, which I felt was very easy to compose nicely. Both of us turned slightly sideways, arms overlapping naturally, looking directly into the camera; this symmetry naturally expressed the sisterly bond between the characters. The third picture introduced some exaggerated dynamic tension, with both of us spreading our palms outward simultaneously—on one hand making the frame feel open, and on the other hand serving as an invitation or presentation gesture. During actual shooting, because the skirts were quite large and the red ball's cord prop had some weight, keeping hand actions natural without stiffness tested core strength quite a bit. Furthermore, venue foot traffic was significant that day, so we seized many empty gaps to avoid passersby entering the frame.
Returning to this costume itself, the white collar with red embroidered trim combined with a multi-layered lace tiered skirt is very flattering, especially white lace socks paired with brown leather shoes, making overall proportions look longer. Partner's Komeiji Satori black skirt paired with black stockings also showed great texture under the lights. Many fellow fans came to shoot us at the convention, but being able to complete this set of co-created photos in such a quiet and well-designed official booth made both me and @谁也没我会蹭饭 really enjoy the process.
Briefly reviewing this Shaoxing THO experience. Cosplay isn't just about standing there wearing clothes; it requires considering color consistency of makeup, and whether wigs deform in wind or after large movements. For this Subterranean Animism weekend theme, we specially trimmed both wigs again before setting off, ensuring bangs and hair ends had that airy yet structured feeling. Lighting at the venue was dominated by warm white and pink light, which softly enhanced our costume colors without harsh, hard shadows, allowing the overall visual style to proceed gently.
This photo set mainly records our state at this Touhou-only event. After all, the significance of convention photos, beyond showcasing cosplay styling itself, lies in fixing that passion for the work through the camera lens. I also really like the casual moments captured by the camera, such as the gentle swaying trajectory of cords along with movements, and the tacit rhythm between the two of us that needs no words.
