[Houraisan Kaguya Cosplay] Flowing Convention Photos from Touhou Project: A Moment Holding the Jeweled Branch Prop

Holding the colorful branch prop in this white and red outfit, photographer Ruoye captured a few dynamic shots of me at the venue. Receiving these preview returns from the Rana Star x ANE convention, I feel the light, airy atmosphere of the event was perfectly preserved in the frame.

A lot of thought went into the costume design. The upper half features large areas of white ruffled pleats paired with slightly off-shoulder shoulders and dropped gauze sleeves, making it look very airy. The outer light pink sheer tulle is not a solid color—looking closely, you can spot gold botanical patterns printed on it, which, combined with the red binding on the cuffs, creates rich layering. The lower half is a wide, flowing long skirt in a brick-red and light-pink patchwork; to accommodate full motion, a high slit was incorporated into the hem. The waist belt is also full of detail—the wide pink band is accented with red frog-button tassels and white beaded embellishments, focusing the overall visual weight on the waist for this Anime-style look.

For makeup, the eye area was the main focus this time. Paired with long black hair, I wore reddish-brown contact lenses; matching eyeshadow did a great job making my eyes look deep and lively. The wig is a classic straight long hair with blunt bangs and smooth texture—with even slight walking movements at the venue, the photographer could capture the dynamic fluttering of hair strands. The prop in my hand is a slender branch adorned with colorful small spheres, serving as a fantastic visual focal point during the shoot; whether raised high or held in front, it perfectly fit the character's original setting.

As for the shooting process, these photos were actually taken while moving around the convention hall floor. The lights on the ceiling were densely arranged, and those round light tubes naturally formed beautiful bokeh spots in the lens, softening the slightly cluttered convention background behind me. Wearing black platform geta clogs, maintaining stability while posing with one leg raised required a bit of core strength. For the pose in the second photo where one leg is lifted, I had to find my center of gravity several times and repeatedly adjust how the skirt settled, ensuring that the flowing sleeves and floating hair looked naturally extended.

Photographer Ruoye's capture timing was fantastic. The fourth photo caught the exact moment I was winding down a pose—the hem had just fallen back into place, giving off a serene sense of static elegance instead. Personally, I really love the wind-blown skirt effect in the first image. Although the venue floor had seams and tape marks, solid lens blurring gave these Convention photos a studio or outdoor location feel. Getting these returned photos made me realize that even during casual convention Houraisan Kaguya cosplay, as long as props and makeup are thoroughly prepared and the photographer is sensitive to lighting, you can capture clean, narrative-driven shots. The red and white palette complemented the cool white ambient lighting of the venue, with the cool-warm contrast rendering both skin and attire crisp and translucent. As a recent convention record, I'm really satisfied with this set of photos.
