[Umi Sonoda cosplay] Love Live!: A Blue-Haired Girl's Pure School Uniform & Stocking Showcase

This scheduled cosplay photoshoot features Umi Sonoda from Love Live! From initial hair and makeup design to the actual outfit styling, the final images achieved the crisp, refreshing feel I had envisioned. The shoot took place in an indoor studio dominated by pastel pink tones and plush toys; this soft backdrop blended harmoniously with the youthful school vibes of Umi's look, making the overall atmosphere feel exceptionally sweet and clean for this Casual cosplay session.

Let's start with the core of the outfit. Layering a bright yellow V-neck knitted sweater vest over a crisp white collared shirt, tying a red-and-blue striped bow tie at the neckline, and pairing it with a blue-and-red plaid pleated miniskirt—this classic school uniform instantly captures the character's core traits in School style cosplay. To balance the visual center of gravity, I chose black over-the-knee socks paired with black platform lace-up shoes. This combination of pleated skirt and Black tights outfit not only recreates the leg proportions seen in 2D illustrations, but also elongates the overall silhouette in composition. Particularly in the full-body standing shot, the seamless transition from legs to shoes combined with the yellow-and-blue uniform created a striking yet harmonious color clash.

For hair and makeup, I wore amber-colored contact lenses to match Umi, paired with long straight deep-blue hair and blunt bangs. Elongating the eye shape with delicate eyeliner gave the gaze more soul and narrative depth. The smoothness and texture of this long straight wig were crucial; during shooting, we constantly adjusted the hair's flow to prevent stiffness or frizz. Fortunately, the soft lighting beautifully brought out the natural glossy luster of the hair strands in the final shots.

Selecting props for the shoot also took careful thought. The tabletop was covered with a pink tablecloth printed with cartoon characters and English lettering, while a pudding dessert and matching spoon enhanced the narrative feel of the composition. In another set of shots, holding an oversized white plushie with an exaggerated head instantly boosted the scene's playful, cute charm. When pulling back for full-body shots, a pillar stacked high with matching plushies filled the background, creating a delightfully lush composition. The ambient pink fill light and draped white sheer curtains crafted an exceptionally dreamy, immersive mood.

This kind of studio environment truly tests a photographer's lighting skills. Because the yellow sweater vest was quite bright, overly intense light would easily cause overexposure on the clothing, while insufficient light would cause the deep blue hair to lose its layered definition. Fortunately, the photographer utilized softboxes for precise fill lighting, keeping shadows wonderfully gentle. Across the final images, skin texture and garment folds were handled with restraint, avoiding excessive post-processing traces.

For the cover of this set, I selected the full-body standing shot. Beyond showcasing the complete coordination of the school uniform to the fullest extent, the black stockings stand out vividly against the pink-and-white background, with a centered composition that keeps the visual balance pristine.
