Today I'm bringing you a finished night shoot photoshoot of Castorice cosplay from Honkai: Star Rail. The location was set in a Sea of flowers at night near Sanlin Software Park; scouting out this field in full bloom with pale purple blossoms took considerable preparation time beforehand. Shooting on-site at night was genuinely a massive challenge.
Shooting out in the wilderness at night meant the dense grass was teeming with bugs—bug repellent is an absolute necessity. Because it was pitch dark, focusing was slower, and the keeper rate wasn't as high as daytime shoots, demanding greater patience in communicating and tweaking compositions. The deep pits, pitch-black night, and gale-force winds mentioned in posts—I experienced every single one of them this time. The biggest hurdle of night photography is illumination: without natural light, you rely entirely on artificial setups. Immense thanks to the support crew for holding up a massive overhead light to illuminate the whole flower field, giving dimension to both character and background rather than leaving everything in muddy darkness.
The outfit this time is a white-and-purple dress with a wonderful drape; the skirt hem features well-defined ruffles accented with abundant white ribbons and bows. To complete the styling, I paired it with white pantyhose Stockings. At the chest sits a black collar necklace adorned with a vivid butterfly at the center, while the head is styled with an intricate headpiece incorporating floral and horned elements. The Scythe prop is genuinely enormous and far from lightweight, displaying a gradient of purple, white, and pink, with white leaf patterns carved into the blade and a spherical orb embedded in the center. Gripping it firmly while the wind whipped around my skirt was a serious test of core strength.
In choreography and pose design, I wanted to convey a quiet, detached serenity, so I kept my gaze relaxed without forcing dramatic expressions toward the camera. The shots cradling a bouquet aimed for a gentle, slice-of-life contrast; those blossoms of blue, white, and orange formed rich color layers against the pale purple background. The motion of swinging the Scythe prop was rehearsed repeatedly, paying close attention to blade orientation and arm curvature so I wouldn't strike surrounding plants or myself. The gusty wind also raised the difficulty, frequently blowing my skirt and wig into disarray, requiring constant pauses to tidy up and refocus before stepping back into character.
Overall, this was an intensely immersive creative experience. Overcoming every environmental obstacle, the lighting, shadows, and color rendition in the final images all achieved our envisioned expectations.
