The location for this shoot was set along the coastal breakwater right beneath towering wind turbines. The core visual theme leaned into a daily life, nautical style portrait aesthetic; therefore, when selecting the outfit, I stepped away from stiff, traditional uniform textiles in favor of a baby-blue sailor-collar dress crafted from soft, elegantly draping fabric. The dark navy sailor stripes tracing the collar and the front necktie served as eye-catching accents, naturally radiating a youthful school-day aura. To balance the airy silhouette of the dress, I paired it with over-the-knee White stockings and black platform loafers. The platform soles not only provided a firmer, more stable footing across the uneven, jagged stone slabs of the seawall, but also visually sculpted a sleeker leg contour. The off-white dome hat was initially worn to shield against the coastal wind, yet during the session, it unexpectedly turned into a wonderful styling prop—whether gently holding down the brim or bowing my head, it lent an effortless, candid charm to the frames.

For props, I brought along a white paper pinwheel, a natural wooden violin, and a simple water bottle carried along for the day. While my initial intention was to capture a quiet, cold, and serene seaside mood, the ocean breeze was fierce: the pinwheel spun at dizzying speeds and the violin bow trembled incessantly in the gusts. We decided to embrace nature's spontaneous rhythm, freezing those kinetic moments as they swayed in the wind. The gear remained my trusted Sony A7R3 paired with the Tamron 28-75mm F/2.8 G2. Under the diffuse, overcast lighting, this lens setup rendered skin tones with immense softness. To handle the unpredictability of coastal gusts, I dialed the aperture between F2.8 and F4, kept the shutter speed above 1/800s, and calibrated the white balance slightly toward cooler tones; combined with in-camera film simulation profiles, the unedited raw images instantly channeled that nostalgic Japanese summer feel.

Compositionally, I deliberately worked from low-angle perspectives, allowing the background windmills and the geometric lines of the seawall to extend into deep vanishing perspective. For instance, in the shot seated on the stone steps, instead of facing directly forward, I pivoted sideways—planting one foot on the lower step while letting the other leg stretch naturally forward. This visual framing maximized the smooth texture of the White stockings and elongated leg proportions. While holding the violin, dropping my center of gravity low and tilting my head slightly established a compelling tactile contrast between the organic wood grain of the instrument and the muted grey-blue sea. Throughout the shoot, the relentless sea breeze made it difficult to even keep my eyes open, yet the instant those frames froze inside the camera, all exhaustion evaporated. That was precisely the unfettered, salt-scented freedom I had been longing to capture.
