[Kal'tsit cosplay] Arknights: The Aloof Onlooker

For this photoshoot of Kal'tsit from Arknights (Kal'tsit cosplay), all the focus was placed on reproducing the textures of the transparent plastic materials and techwear straps in this Techwear cosplay styling. The preparation process for this costume was quite tedious. The most difficult part was actually those transparent PVC panels—their surfaces catch fingerprints and scratches extremely easily, requiring repeated wiping before shooting. While the cleaning process was a headache, when paired with the black leather belts and straps, the cold, rigid sci-fi aesthetic presented under diffuse light truly captured the character's temperament. I searched for a long time before customizing this long, straight silver-white wig—the drape had to be sleek without excessive volume, or it wouldn't match the character's composed personality, completing the look with Silver hair and cat ears. The cat ears on my head were custom-made rigid accessories that sat very securely on the head. For makeup, to accentuate the detachment in the gaze, I chose reddish-pink contact lenses with slightly elongated, upturned eyeliner to tone down any cuteness.

On the day of the shoot, the lighting consisted of natural diffuse light with no harsh glare, which was exceptionally favorable for showcasing the soft reflections of the transparent materials. The location was chosen beneath an outdoor bridge amidst concrete pillars and staircases for this Outdoor photography session; the gray architecture and rough textures formed a perfect contrast with the exquisite costume. To find the angle that best captured the character's demeanor, we tried a side-sitting pose looking back over the shoulder, using the foreground pillar for natural framing. Because the outfit contains a large amount of transparent plastic materials with poor breathability, shooting outdoors certainly added to the physical toll. But seeing the results in the viewfinder made all the preparation feel completely worthwhile. This gear tests a cosplayer's maintenance skills; I recommend bringing extra microfiber glasses cloths and keeping sun protection in mind when cosplaying this look.

We also put a lot of thought into choreographing the poses. Leaning back to support the body allowed the skirt hem to drape into more natural folds while better displaying the lines of the shoulders and arms. During the shoot, the photographer offered great professional advice regarding light refraction. The prop was a transparent replica firearm that felt very solid in hand. The transparent sleeve cuffs refracted light onto my face, simulating the glow of high-tech equipment. I genuinely favor this cool-toned photography style, maintaining a sense of detachment between the subject and the background. Suiting up in this outfit was almost like donning armor—those layered black straps had to be carefully tightened to achieve the snug fit seen in the photos, which was nearly impossible to do alone without help from my assistant friend. Double-sided tape was also an indispensable spare to prevent transparent shoulder straps from slipping. Looking back, recreating such a cold, rigid techwear character demands extreme attention to detail. To highlight the crisp texture, the color grading preserved the gray tones of the environment to make the character stand out even more. This set of photos represents my most satisfying state to date.
