[Goldenglow cosplay] Arknights Winter Snowscape Close-Up Portrait Record

Preparing this winter Christmas costume for Goldenglow from Arknights truly took a lot of effort. The overall palette adopted the classic red, green, and white combination, paired with short pink hair and droopy-ear headwear; the snowflake kerchief on the headpiece looks full of festive spirit. However, this shoot wasn't done on Christmas Day itself, but was pushed back until after the holidays to officially release the photos. The main reason was that the outfit had quite a few intricate details, requiring repeated adjustments to the plush beast ears and wig to achieve the desired look.

This session mainly focused on close-up headshots, as portraits rely much more heavily on makeup, styling, and facial expressions than full-body shots. To fit the character, I wore special amber contact lenses. The reflection in my eyes on camera, combined with the blush on my cheeks, made the photos look much more vivid. Regarding the costume handling, the lining was a major headache. The hat and red-and-white clothes bled color with just a light wash, staining the inner lining into a mess—I was truly exasperated with the costume brand this time. Discovering the bleeding issue during the initial fitting, I had to do whatever I could to remedy it, hoping post-processing would conceal it or simply making a replacement lining myself next time.

Aside from the staining issue, this outfit comes with many plush accessories, which made holding props a bit inconvenient. The chest decorations and accessories bearing small tower insignias had great texture, while the ruffled edges of the apron required careful maintenance. Because it was quite cold on the shooting day, even with a shawl and down jacket for warmth, taking off the coat to shoot still relied on personal frost resistance. To keep the frames clean, we experimented with various shooting angles, utilizing the surroundings to avoid cluttered backgrounds during close-ups.

Regarding the makeup approach, pairing the short pink hair with color-matched plush beast ears framed the face nicely to look smaller on camera. To showcase the character's playfulness, I specifically adjusted the angles of the bangs and side hairpins. The overall makeup was kept light yet warm-toned to complement this winter outfit for Anime-style photography. In post-processing, the focus was adjusting light-and-shadow contrast to enhance the Christmas red aesthetic and refining the textures of the white fur trim and kerchief. Since this shoot primarily featured half-body and close-up portraits, we avoided complicated full-body poses, simply turning the head and placing a finger near the lips to enrich the composition with subtle gestures.

After finishing these photo sets, I tried washing the lining again. Although some staining marks remained, I accepted the reality since the final photos turned out better than expected. The hardest part of shooting close-up portraits is maintaining focused eyes and natural expressions, requiring continuous adjustments to gaze direction and smile curves in front of the lens. This red winter outfit works best in natural light, making the skin look very fair. Despite the minor setback of a damaged lining in the wash, the final image quality was very satisfying. I hope that next time I cosplay this character, I can prepare an appropriate base layer in advance to prevent such color-bleeding wardrobe mishaps. This set of close-up portraits captured a great condition in composition and expression, making for a truly fulfilling Casual cosplay experience.
