I've finally finished sorting through these convention photos of the Herrscher of Thunder. Bringing this character to life took quite a long time in prep—from costume patterning and prop painting to wig styling, every single phase required meticulous attention to detail. The Herrscher of Thunder from Honkai Impact 3rd has such an iconic design: long straight purple hair crowned by horns in a red-to-black gradient creates immense visual impact.

First, regarding the props: the broadsword in hand is one of the focal points of the entire look. The blade body is primarily purple, accented by a gradient blue fade along the edges that casts subtle reflections under the convention hall lights. The gold, red, and black details on the handguard and hilt were all meticulously hand-painted with a fine brush, and waiting for the coats to dry took several days. For the horns on my head, I used an airbrush to softly sweep the colors to achieve that seamless red-to-black transition. The trickiest part was securing them: the wig itself carries noticeable weight, and once the horns were mounted, they tended to tilt forward. Using numerous bobby pins in a crisscross pattern along with internal support pads finally kept them rock-solid no matter how I turned my head. The biggest fear during Cosplay convention photos is a prop failing out of nowhere, so before heading out, I packed a dedicated emergency kit with touch-up paints and adhesives.

As for the costume, it features an asymmetrical red, black, and white structure. While the crimson pauldron on the shoulder looks incredibly fierce, it has substantial physical heft; the strapping had to be calibrated to the exact tension, as too loose would cause it to wobble during dynamic poses, while too tight would restrict arm mobility. The gauntlets and waist accessories were packed with intricate layers, requiring friends to help adjust placements so everything read cleanly from every angle in front of the lens. To match the character's icy, imposing demeanor, the eye makeup was deepened, paired with purple-blue contact lenses and a classic crimson lip, creating a clean, sharp Anime-style aesthetic.

The shoot took place in the grand hall of a massive convention center. The ambient lighting was fairly intricate, with harsh overhead spotlights and dense crowds in the background. To isolate me from the chaotic environment, the photographer brought in off-camera flashes to crush the background into moody shadow, allowing the subject's silhouette and vivid colors to pop. For the pose in the second photo reaching forward toward the camera, we tested the angle multiple times: splaying five fingers on the left hand while resting the heavy blade across my right shoulder not only tested my balance, but demanded an intensely piercing, intimidating gaze. Holding that pose challenged my arm and core strength, making me break into a sweat after just a brief hold. The defensive guard in the first photo offered a different narrative—leveling the sword horizontally across my chest while angling my torso toward the camera for a grounded, composed stance.

The floating white light speckle effects added in post-production harmonized perfectly with the dark hall backdrop, elevating the frame's cinematic atmosphere significantly. Unlike controlled studio setups, convention shoots require tackling constant unpredictable現場 hurdles, yet it is precisely that authentic ambient light and shadow that gives Cosplay convention photos their irreplaceable presence. From smoothing out the garment and dressing the wig to holding diverse stances, the journey was physically exhausting, but seeing the final deliverables made all the prep and effort deeply rewarding.
