[Liben cosplay] Encounters at the Super Brand Mall Cosplay convention: Store Manager's Exclusive Coupons Ready!

For the Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail Only Cosplay convention at Shanghai's Super Brand Mall on the 23rd and 24th, I chose to appear as Shopkeeper Liben. As a merchant who frequently does business with everyone in the game, Liben's outfit is highly recognizable. For this prep, the focus was placed on restoring the texture of the costume and accessories. Backstage, I specifically groomed this purple short-sleeved coat, hung the gold chain on my chest, donned golden gauntlets on my arms, and paired it with a wide leather belt featuring a metal buckle—striving to capture the image of that globe-trotting merchant in Genshin Impact who loves money yet holds his own unique business ethics.

The three photos shared earlier were taken during our final fitting at a selfie studio and storage room before setting up at the convention. The first picture is in the wig area; facing a wall of mannequin heads and colorful wigs offers a direct look into the rich prep resources behind anime character roleplay. The second picture is in front of a packed prop weapon rack, where I intentionally struck Liben's iconic arms-spread pose with my head tilted up slightly and sunglasses on. Even though Liben isn't skilled at fighting with weapons, pulling off this calm and composed stance still carries strong "Shopkeeper" aura. The third picture squeezes between tightly packed clothing racks; this slightly cluttered behind-the-scenes environment often conveys a stronger sense of authenticity. Ground racks hung with clothes and piled props are the battlegrounds where we cosplayers frequently haunt.

This convention location is at Super Brand Mall, situated in a bustling commercial area. On the 23rd and 24th, entering the event as Shopkeeper Liben, I specifically prepared exclusive store coupons for Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail players. After all, as a qualified traveling merchant on Teyvat, coupons and Mora are essential tools of the trade. Before doing this character, I carefully pondered Liben's personality traits. He seems a bit greedy for money, yet shows immense generosity toward the Traveler. So when interacting at the booth, I intentionally maintained a relaxed demeanor with unconstrained movements. Although this purple coat and gold chain look flashy in real life, as long as you exude that character's confidence, it works. Especially at an Only Cosplay convention hosted jointly for Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail, the crowd of fellow fans will surely make for an incredible atmosphere.

Having done many cosplays, I feel the biggest challenge with Liben isn't the makeup, but the detail accuracy of the accessories. The necklace, armguards, and belt buckle—if even one tiny detail looks out of place, it ruins the overall feel. Also, due to personal proportions, wearing belted clothing makes adjusting proportions crucial, which is why we must repeatedly test fit and adjust in the warehouse before wearing any character out. I hope this street outfit lets Genshin Impact players recognize me as Liben at a glance, rather than just another ordinary NPC.

During warehouse fitting, to capture that carefree, effortless vibe, we specifically chose this prop weapon rack as the backdrop. Though those prop weapons aren't real steel, their colors are vibrant and shapes exaggerated, fitting the game's fantasy style. After taking the second picture, we felt the overall visual effect was great—the colorful swords provided a wonderful visual complement to my purple coat, showing the importance of matching props and environment in cosplay photography.

Late March is a wonderful season of spring warmth and blossoming flowers, and foot traffic around Super Brand Mall is naturally heavy.
