[Columbina Cosplay] Genshin Impact: Light Blue Negative Space of the Serene Maiden

For this shoot, we opted for a white and light blue studio setup to showcase this work. The entire dress incorporates large areas of sheer chiffon fabric; while visually light and ethereal, it actually relies on internal boning and hidden snaps to maintain its silhouette structure. When posing in a seated position, the key areas to pay attention to are the lines of the waist, abdomen, and legs. Since the hollowed-out design of the thigh straps visually extends leg proportions, sitting with a slouched posture can easily make one look short. Therefore, during the shoot, I consciously engaged my core to keep my upper body upright.

As for the makeup design, I abandoned overly heavy colors this time, focusing instead on under-eye brightening and highlighting to blend seamlessly with the bright, light-toned environment. For the wig, I selected a style with a black base and red tips. To capture the character's sense of depth, a lot of thought went into styling the bangs—they couldn't be too thick or too flat against the scalp, balancing facial visibility with that signature aloof detachment. The white arm wraps are one of the essences of this outfit; they not only add complexity to the styling but also provide great limb extension during posing. During the shoot, the silver high heels were actually quite challenging to wear, as the upper coverage was minimal, requiring my feet to maintain balance for long periods.

We actually prepared quite a few props for today's studio photoshoot. The vase on the left, scattered petals, and the blue bouquet on the right were all meant to complement the white chiffon background, creating a clean, pure visual flow. The photographer used large softboxes for lighting to brighten shadow details as much as possible while preserving material textures—such as the hazy translucency of the sheer fabric and the subtle luster on the stockings. This lighting style places high demands on makeup cleanliness; the slightest slip can make the face look oily, so I had to touch up frequently between takes, re-applying loose powder to maintain a matte finish.

When capturing these seated shots, the most exhausted part was actually my leg muscles. Holding a cross-legged sitting posture for one to two minutes at a time to capture the precise expression left my legs feeling very numb and sore after a while. Although the final image appears completely peaceful and elegant, behind the camera, everyone was repeating takes over tiny details. For example, regarding the exquisite blue beaded heel on my right foot, the prop master spent nearly ten minutes adjusting its placement angle just to match the frame's composition. Once we wrapped up the shoot, taking off the wig and intricate shoulder accessories brought a sense of transparent relief.

Although the design of this look is quite ornate, many clever fastenings were made to facilitate movement, so wearing it overall wasn't as cumbersome as one might imagine. This kind of predominantly white photography style is sometimes harder to control than rich, vivid color styles, because without care, it can easily look bland and flat. Therefore, when emoting, I deliberately avoided exaggerated expressions, opting instead to tilt my head slightly and look directly into the lens, hoping to fill the subtle color scheme with the focus in my eyes. The blue gem brooch, blue shoes, and the blue bouquet on the right served as excellent accents in the frame, preventing the pure white environment from feeling overly monotonous.

Teamwork during the shoot was also crucial—adjusting the drape of the skirt or fine-tuning the tightness of the arm wraps required the joint efforts of two or three people. Because everyone was filled with enthusiasm for this design, the process, though exhausting, was immensely rewarding. Writing up to this point, I also wanted to record some of the styling difficulties as a reference for friends who want to shoot a similar style in the future. For example, it's best to choose leg warmers with subtle 3D textures to prevent harsh glares and exposure under white lighting. Of course, this work holds many details I am deeply satisfied with.
