[Makima cosplay] Chainsaw Man: Industrial Style Convention photos Showcase

This set of Makima cosplay Convention photos was taken at the iJoy convention. The turnaround was very fast because our costume and prop prep beforehand was solid, plus AI-assisted post-processing helped tune the atmosphere, resulting in a finish remarkably close to the cold, rugged yet alluring aesthetic I envisioned.

First, let's talk about the costume fabric. To faithfully channel the character's commanding presence, I specifically chose high-gloss black patent leather (Leather jacket) for the upper garment, spending ages hunting down the exact red piping along the lapels and placket. Adding black gloves and a red peaked officer cap with a cross motif kept the palette strictly to black and red, visually sleek and cohesive. The hair is my own hair dyed red; during shooting, we took quite a bit of time adjusting the angle of the side braid to ensure it didn't look awkward while perched on metal scaffolding. Makeup focused heavily on the eyes and contacts; pairing luminous orange contact lenses with the crimson hair looked striking under the convention hall's overhead lights.

For props, we deployed a heavy amount of iron chains. The chains were far heavier than they appear, requiring constant arm and back tension to control their drape. In the half-body framing of Photo 1, with chains crisscrossing before my torso, wrist strength was essential to stabilize the chain's dynamic trajectory—any slack would turn it into a messy blur. Moving to the full-body composition of Photo 2, the seated pose with legs crossed showcased sleek lines through the black Stockings and over-the-knee socks. Since pairing high heels with long Stockings can easily leave the legs looking visually monotonous, I used trailing red cords and adjacent iron chains as accents to enrich compositional layers. The industrial warehouse backdrop on site fit this styling flawlessly, though complex ambient lighting caused the patent leather to glare across broad areas. Consequently, we spent considerable time adjusting fill lights to preserve fabric textures and shadow details on the legs.

Speaking of AI post-processing, it was an exciting mini-experiment this time. In convention hall shots, messy expo clutter and wandering crowds are virtually inevitable, and relying solely on conventional color grading and retouching easily flattens spatial depth. During post-production, I leveraged AI assistance to reshape background depth, accentuating the vanishing lines of steel girders and ceiling lamps to amplify the rugged industrial vibe. AI was primarily utilized for ambient rendering and noise cleanup, while the crisp contours of facial features, hair strand direction, and metallic chain textures fully retained real photographic authenticity. On site, we scouted a relatively open corner of the convention hall, utilizing large windows for side-rim lighting to cut cleanly through the Leather jacket highlights, making subsequent retouching look much more natural.

Although wearing this Leather jacket outfit throughout the convention was sweltering, meeting so many fellow Chainsaw Man enthusiasts who excitedly discussed Makima's lore and iconic moments was incredible. This set of Convention photos strikes a visual balance honoring the character's persona across the tactile sheen of the Leather jacket, the weighty presence of the chains, and the framing role of the Stockings and leather shoes.
