[Mash cosplay] Fate/Grand Order Mengka Anime Expo Convention Photo Review

On July 12, 2024, at the Mengka Anime Expo, we shot this set of Mash Convention photos.

The foot traffic inside the exhibition hall was heavy that day, and the lighting conditions were quite complex. Luckily, the cool-toned venue lighting harmonized very well with the pink hair color and overall palette. Special thanks to photographer Huangzu for his help; he is very skilled at utilizing on-site environments. Because the venue was relatively dark, he used a wide aperture to blur the background, turning the chaotic crowd and booths behind into soft bokeh spots, which better highlighted the subject.

The outfit for this look consisted of a white coat over a black dress paired with a red tie, and the patterned detail on the tie was crafted very delicately. Along with the pink short hair and round-framed glasses, it faithfully recreated the character's classic junior kouhai setting. Since the character usually holds a sketchbook, I specially prepared one as a prop with the word "Sketch" printed on the cover, ensuring every detail was in place. During the shoot, the first shot was a pose diligently sitting and recording notes, while the second was a freeze-frame looking up at the lens with both hands raised. I personally prefer the second shot as the cover because the movement feels more natural and relaxed, and the seated angle makes the leg lines in Black stockings look even better. Convention photos really test one's expressive ability in noisy environments, and this time I experimented with various movement details.

For the makeup, I deliberately chose reddish-pink tones to harmonize with the hair color and red tie. Walking around the exhibition hall all day and constantly crouching or sitting down to adjust poses was quite physically demanding. In fact, shooting on-site Convention photos tests coordination heavily because unlike studio shoots where you have ample preparation time, the surrounding audio from booths is loud, requiring a faster rhythm of posing. While refining my gaze and hand gestures, I tried my best to maintain the character's signature sense of focus. The entire preparation and shooting process went smoothly; despite the exhaustion, seeing the final photos made all the hard work feel completely worthwhile.

Regarding this styling, I also thoroughly studied the character's costume logic and accessory details beforehand. The hexagonal pattern on the red tie is the core soul of the design, so I spent a long time searching for the version with the highest accuracy. The length of the skirt paired with the Black stockings cosplay aesthetic was also kept as close as possible to the original character design. Being able to produce great photos smoothly this time truly owes thanks to friends who helped adjust the wig and clothes. I hope to have more opportunities in the future to attend conventions with styling even closer to the characters and document these wonderful moments.
