This Morgana cosplay work took about a month from preparation to execution. The color and shape of the hair were the first major obstacles to overcome. Not only did I need to achieve that purple texture and layering, but I also had to make the hairstyle look slightly disheveled with its iconic sharp points. To allow the hair strands to hold that three-dimensional shape, I used a hidden support bracket inside the wig along with styling spray, ensuring the silhouette would remain intact even under windy conditions. For the makeup, I discarded conventional highlighters and used an extremely pale base color. Combined with deep purple and black eyeshadow blending, I intentionally enlarged the eyeliner and extended it downwards, which, along with the dark lip makeup, aimed to recreate the character's disdainful, aloof, and slightly decadent expression.
In terms of the costume, to balance the character's sense of mystery and power, the top and bottom pieces adopted a black-and-purple tube top corset design, requiring tight contours at the chest and waist to fit the character's silhouette. The lower half is a high-slit long skirt with black plush trim along the edges, a design that not only adds layers to the outfit but also reveals a large portion of the leg lines. Paired with a pair of black high heels, it effectively elongates the visual proportions, making the overall posture more upright. The golden geometric cutout metal ornaments on the waist and skirt hem were modified by hand. Their glossy sheen only shows up under specific light and shadow, and they feel quite heavy when worn, so I had to be careful to prevent them from catching on the skirt fabric while walking.
During this photo shoot, the greatest challenge was actually that pair of giant black wings. The entire wings were made by cutting dozens of pieces of EVA material into feather shapes and then layering them together with hot melt glue. The wingspan of a single side reached nearly one meter, with sections extending downward like a skirt hem to wrap around both sides of the body. Once put on, the entire person's center of gravity shifted, and it was incredibly heavy. During the shoot, the photographer asked me to strike various standing, squatting, and looking-back poses. This tested not only the support of my shoulders and core but also my balance. Shooting outdoors that day, the wind blew from time to time, and I had to constantly control my muscle force to prevent the wings from causing me to lose balance due to the large windward area.
For the selection of the outdoor location, we found a modern building with a white mesh structure as a background. These clean geometric lines and bright sky formed a stark cool-warm contrast with the large areas of black, purple, and gold in our dark style makeup and styling attire. The building's immense sense of space also accentuated the vastness of the wings. Many people have a misconception about the character, thinking that having wings means being detached from the ground, but the quote at the beginning inspired me a lot: "If you cannot stand on the earth, what is the use of these feet?" For this shoot, I instead intentionally emphasized standing firmly on the ground, showcasing a rebellious yet confident sense of power rooted in the earth through the grip of the high heels and the force of my legs.
The shooting day was actually quite exhausting. From putting on and taking off the costume to organizing the props, combined with braving the hot weather and heavy makeup, it truly consumed a lot of physical energy. Especially halfway through the shoot, my back pressed under the heavy wings already began to ache. But the moment I saw the finished photos, all the effort became worth it. As a classic veteran champion in League of Legends, this character carries the youth memories of many players. Being able to bring the character's external iconic elements—such as her exclusive purple hair, black wings, high-slit design, and that cold, captivating aura—into reality through this image feels like a highly meaningful new attempt. Although there is room for improvement in the props, this counts as a test of myself on my League of Legends cosplay journey.
