What captivated me most about today's look was the pairing of a white mock-neck sleeveless top with a light blue pleated skirt, layered with a half-draped white jacket—conveying both the pragmatism of fieldwork in the wilderness and the character's composed, effortless grace. In terms of props, the liquid in the yellow flask and the specialized weapon with white armored construction added a strong aura of scientific research coexisting with combat. It's not a traditional laboratory white lab coat, but rather the crisp attire of an action-oriented researcher. As I held the flask in front of the camera, my mind was already envisioning scenes of collecting wilderness samples or confronting anomalous phenomena.
For the hair, the pale blonde straight locks paired with the beast ears on both sides and bright blue contact lenses showed ideal color vibrancy under the transparent blue ambient lighting. To capture that character balance of coolness tinged with wildness, the gaze and hand gestures had to work in unison. The off-the-shoulder jacket gave my shoulders more room to relax, making it easier to slip into character. Beyond the detailed upper outfit, the black tights outfit and heels on the lower half served as another key visual focal point. The patent leather Mary Janes added a retro touch, creating a fascinating contrast against the high-tech backdrop. Within the predominantly white and blue cool-toned lighting, the black tights and shoes grounded the visual weight nicely, accentuating the layered outfit. Balancing this contrast is always tricky—it shouldn't appear overly mature, yet it needs to retain the character's dynamic tension.
On the day of the shoot, I carefully adjusted the cyan-blue waist belt and the tricolor red-white-blue neck lanyard; these small accessories form the backbone of the outfit, without which the styling would feel loose. The leather texture of the gloves was also chosen to have a subtle sheen, providing crisp line work in the frame when gripping props or extending hands. Although the studio was filled with tech gear and electronic displays, I preferred highlighting Perlica's effortless poise navigating between mechanics and nature. The glowing UI on curved monitors, potted greenery in the corner, and tools scattered across the desk weren't just sterile props—they worked with the character to build a workspace that felt orderly yet lived-in. In the low-angle shot sitting on the desk, observing the drape of the skirt and the clean silhouette formed by the black tights through the camera made the character feel all the more alive.
Some say research-themed studios can be monotonous, but with the right styling and composition, they can be rich in storytelling. Every change in camera angle—whether curiously examining the flask or turning sideways to grip the weapon—felt like a storyboard panel from a script. As an ACG Cosplayer, I thoroughly enjoy briefly stepping into another identity through refined costuming and props; it's the core motivation behind my continuous creation. While the ensemble looks sleek, managing it on set took effort: keeping the white jacket pristine, maintaining the wig's styling on the move, and keeping track of small accessories like gloves and metal neckpieces that define the outfit's completeness. To achieve optimal results, the crew and I adjusted lighting angles and positions repeatedly. The blue base lighting reflected on white walls created a dynamic cool-warm contrast against the yellow liquid, and retaining this color palette in post-processing delivered a remarkably transparent, vivid visual experience.
Integrating the character with the setting was a key focus during this shoot. Rather than over-exaggerating expressions, I preferred capturing a natural state of focus and clarity. When posing on the desk edge or sitting on the floor, balancing the drape of the skirt and jacket was essential to keep the silhouette clean. For the shots where the blade weapon is extended sideways, applying proper tension ensured that body lines and posture translated cleanly to the lens.
Reviewing the footage from this shoot, my biggest takeaway was the great versatility of this look—whether under cool blue lighting or set against the spacious negative space of white walls, it faithfully conveyed the character's distinct aura. We also carefully timed the shooting pace to catch the best lighting angles, ensuring crisp highlights on the yellow flask.
Cosplay photography is never merely about recording an appearance; every dedicated styling detail and deliberate pose is an attempt to draw closer to the character's inner essence. Even without complex outdoor terrain, this minimalist yet detail-rich laboratory style space provided ample visual tension to explore.
