This light purple Emilia tulle dress exceeded my expectations when I got my hands on it. The halter neck design combined with those star-like decorations at the neckline makes the upper body look much more delicate. When it actually came to shooting, the biggest difficulty was the skirt train. This glossy tulle fabric is extremely lightweight; whenever there was a bit of breeze indoors or the photographer moved around, the skirt would float up on its own. To capture photos that are voluminous and flowy while clearly showing the leg lines through the high slit, I had to constantly adjust the skirt and refine my posture. The white plush rug beneath my feet was something I specifically brought along. Since the shoot location was a rather spacious industrial-style warehouse, bare concrete floors would make the overall frame look quite stiff. Laying down the rug not only cushioned the fatigue of standing, but also added a clean visual anchor at the bottom of the frame.
The elf ears were attached to my ears; they felt a bit tight when applying them, but it was completely worth it for the effect. The braided hair and flower ornaments on top took a long time to secure, as white wigs can easily look flat, making strong support at the roots essential. For makeup, I didn't opt for a heavy or glamorous style; instead, I used a clear, lightweight base, placing emphasis on the eye makeup and a healthy flush on the lips, aiming to bring the overall atmosphere closer to an ethereal, translucent feel.
The lighting on the day of the shoot was very interesting. Natural white light spilled down from the skylights at the top of the warehouse, shining directly against the dress as backlighting. Although these backlighting conditions were demanding for exposure control, the resulting effect was fantastic. The photographer specifically asked me to lift the skirt slightly with my hand, which not only revealed the leg lines, but also allowed the light to pass through the thin tulle dress, creating a shimmering, fluid feel. While standing with the high-slit design required extra caution to prevent wardrobe mishaps, it was truly a fantastic feature for highlighting the character's uniquely graceful posture.
The shooting process was actually quite tiring, because while dresses made of this fabric are gorgeous, they are also extremely delicate. While walking around and posing, I had to constantly make sure the skirt didn't drag too much on the ground to avoid scratching the glossy material. Tidying up the skirt became a repetitive chore; basically, every two or three shots required readjusting it. The photographer was super patient throughout, discussing angles with me—such as whether shooting from slightly off to the front side or taking a direct frontal shot better showcased the layers of the dress.
I am quite pleased with the final result's combination of cool elegance and ethereal flowiness. The cool light purple tones blended quite well with the gray tones of the industrial setting without feeling jarring. For cosplay photoshoots in large scenes, besides post-processing color consistency, controlling the lighting beforehand is crucial as it determines the texture of many details. Before taking this picture, I kept thinking about how to highlight the character in such an environment; personally, I feel the expressive power of this set passed with flying colors.
Because the skirt's hem is very wide, spreading it out on the ground looked like a giant flower petal. Paired with the white rug underneath, the overall color structure became very clean and clear. The white hair also rendered very well under natural light without looking yellowish or overexposed. In post-processing, the main focus was slightly dampening the background darkness to highlight the main subject, while making subtle adjustments to the highlights of the pearlescent fabric.
Wearing this costume really requires patience, but as long as you get over the fear of a frizzy wig and the worry of the tulle dress tangling, seeing the shot gives a huge sense of accomplishment. I thoroughly enjoyed those moments captured in the warehouse that day; those unique lighting conditions and this light purple tulle dress were truly a perfect match. I've also been trying to convey the character's traits more effectively through the synergy of body language and attire, including the lightness in every movement and that ethereal, otherworldly look in the eyes. Although standing in high heels for a long time made my feet sore, the moment I saw the final photos, everything felt completely worth it.
