[Scaramouche cosplay] Genshin Impact Rooftop Night View: Blue Mechanical Gears and City Lights

When I got the raw captures from this outdoor shoot back, my immediate thought was: this rooftop and the glowing curved skyscrapers behind me strongly resemble the architectural clusters seen in Genshin Impact. Though standing by the rooftop railing facing cold night winds definitely required steady composure!

The core focus was recreating his short bowl-cut wig paired with a hood; however, to optimize camera clarity, I removed the hood and relied solely on the styled wig to convey his demeanor. While his character lore includes always wearing a hat, it actually feels grounded in real-world practicality. That hat was tucked away in my gear bag, removed during the take specifically to expose the glowing neck collar.

The wardrobe features a sleeveless black base layer under a white cardigan outerwear, accented by crisscross waist straps and a red-and-purple belt system. In low-light Cosplay photography, white outerwear carries high light reflectivity. Using high-power continuous lighting on a dark rooftop can easily blow out white fabrics if light angles aren't precisely shaped. The photographer skillfully controlled key illumination while featuring my massive blue ring prop. In dark environments, its blue LED breathing light strip cast a striking glow, tinting ambient surroundings with sci-fi cyan hues that fit Scaramouche's mechanical sci-fi themes and distant demeanor.

The skyscrapers behind me featured pronounced parabolic curves, displaying sharp linear geometry when illuminated at night. This setup builds a far colder, more mysterious night view atmosphere than daytime sunlight shoots. Standing on the rooftop edge with rushing urban traffic in the distance and quiet darkness up close created a compelling visual contrast. I tried several side profile poses, such as holding the ring prop at my side or adjusting my glasses toward the lens. Since the glasses also featured blue LED strips, Photo 2—the low-angle shot where I adjust my glasses—yielded tighter framing, an icy facial expression, and well-balanced body proportions.

Strong gusts picked up during the latter half of the shoot, tossing the wig slightly; this unintentionally added dynamic snapshot energy that complemented the wind-whipped coat tails to highlight his sharp edge. As part of Coser daily life, fabricating hardware props and hunting down locations can be grueling—especially assembling the metal buckles and joint articulations on the gear. Yet seeing those textures pop under studio lighting made every effort worth it.

This specific rooftop was chosen for its sweeping nocturnal field of view and orderly urban grid lights. Cosplay extends beyond putting on costumes; securing the right environment and lighting setup breathes authentic life into fictional lore. While this character inhabits fantastical high-tech domains in Teyvat, placing him against real-world skyscrapers sparked a captivating visual clash. Seamlessly merging 2D artistic concepts into 3D cityscapes while preserving visual harmony is one of the most rewarding aspects of photography.

Packing up props and garments at wrap, I felt we authentically captured a genuine shadow of the character under neon nightscapes. The wind was fierce, but the final frames turned out wonderfully transparent. Consider this a deeply fulfilling submission for my Genshin Impact Creator Incentive Program portfolio.
