Collaborating with photographer Xuan Xia this time, I shot an official poolside-themed cosplay set of Shiroko Sunaookami from Blue Archive. Before deciding to shoot this collection, we communicated at length regarding the scene and posing details. Shiroko possesses very distinct personality traits, and the summer atmosphere of the swimming pool pairs seamlessly with the crystal-clear, aquatic blue environment to form an exquisite visual contrast. To accurately channel the character, I dedicated considerable effort to the styling.
For the swimwear, I selected a one-piece design splicing black, white, and blue, layered over with a white sporty zip-up windbreaker accented by black color-blocking. I intentionally left it unzipped to project an effortless, organic ease before the lens. The wig features silver-gray long straight tresses with carefully textured layers across the bangs. The plush gray animal ears atop the crown and the pale-blue X-shaped hairpins serve as key visual anchors; to avoid looking unnatural under harsh outdoor sunlight, I groomed the fur texture thoroughly before heading out. For makeup, beyond wearing bright blue contact lenses to honor lore settings, I deliberately increased the presence of blush to better capture that authentic anime-inspired visual aesthetic.
The sunlight on the day of the shoot was radiant, setting the water's surface sparkling with caustics. For extended outdoor shooting, foundation longevity is paramount, so I locked in setting spray and powder thoroughly beforehand. Regarding pose references, I mapped out several setups. When sitting along the pool's edge, shifting the center of gravity onto the arms braced behind while letting the legs hang naturally down into the water not only flattered bodily contours, but also conveyed the character's relaxed downtime. Another shot kneeling poolside required raising one hand to gently touch the beast ear on top. This movement genuinely tested core strength: it demanded an upright, elongated spine while maintaining steady micro-expressions to coordinate with Xuan Xia's camera angles.
Shooting by the water, I paid close attention to organic interplay between my body and the lens, steering clear of excessive tension that might lead to postural stiffness. Whenever an occasional gentle breeze drifted through, catching the silver-gray hair strands, Xuan Xia was quick to depress the shutter to freeze those dynamic, candid moments. During mid-session breaks, we set freshly sliced watermelon beside the pool as a decorative touch; the crimson fruit flesh clashing against the blue pool basin injected delightful slice-of-life summer warmth. Soaking in the water throughout the shoot proved quite physically demanding: once drenched, garments grew heavy and wig strands clung to the skin, demanding constant resetting. The overarching shoot was immensely delightful—from garment adjustments to utilizing the environment, it stood as a truly fascinating creative journey.
