Putting on this Shenhe costume and gripping the blue-and-white gradient polearm in hand, the commanding, aloof aura of a dignified heroine immediately enveloped me. For this shoot, we specifically chose a tranquil, classical Chinese garden—blue bricks, grey tiles, vermilion pillars, and stacked rockeries paired seamlessly with this predominantly black-and-white look accented by red and gold elements.
Speaking of the costume, the highlights truly lie in the details. The white top on the upper half, combined with metallic shoulder embellishments and red waist ribbons, preserves the character's restrained and aloof demeanor while accentuating body lines through the cut-out waist design. For the lower half, I opted for a high-texture black Leather pants outfit; this material yielded delicate reflections under natural outdoor light, sculpting crisp and sleek leg contours. The iconic black-and-white headpiece paired with the long silver wig gave a level of character accuracy I was quite satisfied with. As for nail polish, being extremely busy and finding it tricky to apply evenly, I went bare-nailed, but fortunately the weapon and metallic garment trims were eye-catching enough that the visual focus wasn't detracted by the fingertips.
The location offered great spatial depth, and photographer Bubble Teapot found several fantastic angles. In some shots, I stood beside the rockery, balancing on one leg over the water while the wind caught the flowing streamers of the outfit, truly channeling the weightlessness of an adeptus; in others beneath the vermilion pillars, resting the polearm on my arm and glancing back over the railing with a touch of relaxation, it resonated closer with her outward chill yet inward warmth. In post-processing, Xiao Ai toned down the colors of the sky and foliage slightly to highlight the subject's contours, adding richer dimension to the atmosphere without letting bright natural light flatten the frame.
The lighting on the shoot day was rare and ideal; overcast clouds diffused the sun, casting soft, gentle ambient light across my face and the leather pants without harshness. Posing with such a long prop was genuinely demanding physical work—making it tilt or hang naturally without obstructing body lines required the photographer and me to constantly fine-tune my wrist and hand angles. Trying out standing, sitting, and leaning poses truly wove that cool resolve of "protecting cherished ones" into my body language.
From set design and costume details to hair and makeup styling, every cosplay is a renewed understanding of the character and oneself. Although the bare nails were a slight regret, the final texture and atmosphere fully achieved my vision. I'm thrilled to leave behind a story-rich photo set paired with this polearm in such an elegant, historic setting in this Genshin Impact Ancient style photography shoot.
