These Kamisato Ayaka convention photos shot at the Nanjing Super Electric Field poured a lot of effort right from the preparation stage. To present the elegance and dignity expected of a young lady, the fabric and hidden patterns of the costume were selected over a long period. The bright blue fabric paired with white snowflake prints presents a very translucent texture under natural light, and the contrasting design of the pink lace and obi strive for faithful restoration. Regarding the wig, the bangs and sideburns were trimmed again; to achieve that light, breeze-swept airy feel, a lot of effort was put into styling and setting the raw wig, ensuring the hair strands look natural without appearing stiff.
On makeup details, the focus was placed on the translucent feel of the base makeup and the softness of the eye makeup. The blue contact lenses chosen need not only to be vibrant but also possess that transparent glass texture; the eyeliner is slightly elongated, and the eyeshadow uses cool-toned shades, hoping to reflect the character's reserved yet noble temperament. In addition, the black short gloves are also the finishing touch, which can not only refine hand lines but also add a hint of mystery when combined with the folding fan actions. The folding fan prop in hand had its gradient colors and floral patterns carefully checked before the shoot, presenting rich levels of luster under different lighting.
Convention shooting truly tests the photographer's grasp of ambient light. The lighting at the venue on the day of the Nanjing Super Electric Field was quite complex, and there were quite a few passersby in the background. Here, I must praise the photographer Jidanbing, who is exceptionally skilled at candid shots and has an amazing command of light and shadow. We utilized the existing overhead lights in the venue, combined with a reflector to fill in a bit of facial light, making the material details of the wig and clothes stand out even more. The hair-flipping action in photo 2 was the perfect moment selected after multiple candid captures, and the arc of the hair strands happened to have an ethereal feel. During the shoot, we also deliberately sought out relatively clean backgrounds or used a large aperture for blurring, leaving room for post-processing.
When facing the camera, the focus of the gaze and the extension of the limbs are key. It shouldn't be too rigid, nor too exaggerated. I am accustomed to communicating with the photographer before the shoot, trying more semi-profile angles while putting the body's center of gravity on one side, which makes the lines of the arms and shoulders look more natural. When holding the fan in hand, the line of sight can be guided through the rotation of the wrist. The overall atmosphere of this shoot was very harmonious, and there were many interesting interactions on-site.
In post-processing, the retoucher Cheng Baobao Youtian Pi adopted a selective color retention technique, processing the background and passersby into grayscale while retaining only the colors of the character, costume, and props. This processing method is extremely clever; it not only filters out the cluttered environment of the convention site but also allows the bright blue costume and pink hair accessories to instantly pop out against the cool-toned background, providing a strong visual impact. The overall picture is clean and sharp, carrying a chilly atmosphere that perfectly matches the character's tonality. Through this convention photo shoot, I have gained more insights into showcasing this styling, and I also thank the efforts of the entire team.
