This time I cosplayed Komeiji Satori from Touhou Project, choosing a well-lit outdoor garden as the location. To capture the character's quiet yet elusive ambiance, I made numerous attempts with hair and makeup styling. The Pink hair short wig was trimmed for a long time, adjusting the layered ends and bangs length so it framed the face naturally. The black headband and the yellow plush heart are essential elements that instantly capture the character's iconic visual traits. Red contact lenses were paired with deep red eye makeup, keeping the overall makeup clean and translucent to accentuate an innocent look.
The costume is a light blue long-sleeved dress with intricate white lace ruffles at the collar and cuffs, embellished with red cross embroidery. The yellow bow tie and heart-shaped gem on the chest keep the outfit lively and detailed. The fabric is structured and holds its shape well, though extra care was needed during posing to avoid excessive wrinkling.
The core prop of this shoot was the red eye apparatus representing Satori's Eye. To faithfully recreate the character's iconic third eye, I used glittery red fabric with a pupil-like design in the center and a black, red, and white jagged border. I also attached red-and-yellow cords with faux pink and white flowers wound around them. Holding it required maintaining a precise angle to create the feeling of intersecting gazes.
Huge thanks to photographer @Fiore for the shoot; we brainstormed several unique compositions together. The first photo is a half-body close-up, using a small pink flower to partially cover one eye while looking into the lens with the other, which nicely showcased the eye prop and costume details. The second photo is a medium shot holding a flower between my teeth and cupping the prop with both hands, looking delightfully fresh against the purple blossoms in the background. The third photo is an inverted angle: hanging upside down and making hand hearts toward the lens was physically exhausting, but the unconventional perspective gave the shot an exceptionally vibrant feel.
Posing demanded high precision—such as ensuring fingers didn't obstruct the line of sight of the eye prop in Photo 1 while keeping the subject well-balanced within the frame. The inverted angle in Photo 3 tested facial control, requiring a direct gaze into the lens. To capture these poses during optimal lighting, we repositioned repeatedly, and the final results were very satisfying. When posting to social media, post-processing focused mainly on overall color tone: keeping a bright natural light aesthetic while slightly dimming the green foliage and garden blossoms to make the subject pop. This shoot was a joyful Roleplay experience, and preparing the props and attempting unconventional poses deepened my understanding of the character.
