[Varesa Cosplay] Genshin Impact Varesa: Photo Report from Guangzhou Firefly ACG Expo

Here is a look at the details and process behind this shoot. This styling focused on Varesa from Genshin Impact, centered around pink twin braided pigtails accented with teal dip-dye highlights and white curled horns atop the head. The horns carried considerable weight and were anchored to the wig with clips, demanding extra vigilance throughout the session so tilting my head wouldn't cause them to slide loose. The outfit features a cropped top whose midriff-baring design placed high demands on waist alignment and hip posture. Pairing the red sash with the pleated mini-skirt meant remaining conscious of safety while walking around.

The trickiest part was managing the legwear: the white thigh-highs adorned with red and green heart patterns paired with chunky platform shoes were tedious to put on and take off, requiring seven or eight adjustments just to settle into flattering proportions below the knees. The tail was a massive plush piece secured at the back of the waist; it constantly bumped against my legs during movement, making leg-raising poses physically exhausting. The first leg-lift shot demanded immense effort—balancing securely on one leg while extending the other straight out, engaging both core and shoulders across over twenty takes before catching that ideal balance of posture, sleek leg contours, and facial expression.

The photographer noted that the venue's geometric strip lighting carried inherent cyberpunk qualities, which, combined with the bright overhead fluorescents and subtle post-added bokeh particles, played to our strengths. To bypass dense convention crowds, we tucked into a secluded corner, utilizing floor reflections to add clean translucency. Direct overhead hard light was leveraged intentionally to highlight the texture of the white thigh-highs. Wearing Varesa for the first time was truly an endurance test under sustained harsh lighting.

Post-processing focused primarily on balancing skin tones against the background contrast without over-smoothing, as the raw lighting and shadows already provided rich texture. The complementary interplay between the white socks and colorful garments is a core highlight of her design, which drew me to cosplaying her in the first place. Tiring as the convention was, seeing the finished frames made every ounce of effort worthwhile.

Because Genshin Impact cosplay designs are loaded with intricate elements, accessories demand precision; preparation and keeping garments tidy on site directly dictate the final quality. With the makeup artist's help, the fur collar, neck bow, and vest accents were aligned piece by piece. Subtle muscle definition was sculpted by engaging the core and dropping the shoulders, using deliberate leverage to achieve clean lines. While looking light and playful, the platform shoes were quite heavy, requiring engaged core balance with every pose. The venue lighting and glossy floor reflections at Guangzhou Firefly ACG Expo proved photographer-friendly, and I hope everyone can feel the energetic anime atmosphere of the convention floor through this set.
