My old partner and I took on the challenge of the new versions of Da Qiao and Xiao Qiao (White Snake & Green Snake) Cosplay from Honor of Kings. This set focuses on a translucent and agile texture from the makeup and styling to the real scene. The lotus pond location at Old Guihu is extremely vast, with eyes full of lush green lotus leaves acting as a natural foreground and mid-ground, perfectly fitting the thematic setting of 'water generating wood' in the White and Green Snake legend. Although most of the lotus buds were still developing with only scattered pink accents when we went, the large area of green instead made the clothing's color scheme stand out more and look cleaner.

The new styling for Da Qiao's White Snake skin increases many lightweight tassels and semi-transparent tulle while retaining her original cool temperament, especially the design of the skirt hem and cuffs, which gives a breezy, weightless feel when walking. The small metal hair accessories and pure white flower decorations, paired with a high updo, look very celestial. Xiao Qiao's Green Snake skin features a jade-green color full of vibrant life; its layered design makes the sense of depth richer, and together with braids and dangling tassel hair accessories, it showcases a lively and agile side. We specially prepared traditional oil-paper umbrellas, semi-transparent round fans, and various lotus props to give our hands more room to express themselves, avoiding stiff, static posing.

Our photographer is excellent at capturing this natural sense of atmosphere and knows well how to find relatively clean and airy camera angles in crowded environments. He guided us to use the gaps between the lotus leaves to create negative space, keeping the images contextualized without looking cluttered. During the shoot, we simulated many interactive movements, such as holding umbrellas for shade, pretending to pluck lotus flowers, and admiring the scenery side by side. Combined with the relatively soft light of early morning and afternoon, the overall lighting atmosphere of the final photos is very comfortable.

The greatest synergy in releasing the same series of skins with a close friend lies in mutual cooperation and consistency in our understanding of the characters. From initially choosing the theme and purchasing costumes and accessories to later adjusting makeup and selecting locations, the two of us discussed everything together. Looking at the final results of these photos, from today's perspective, this earnest preparation process is actually more memorable than the finished images themselves. Right now, the lotuses at Old Guihu should have entered their peak blooming season; although what we shot was early summer's initial lotuses, this fresh and elegant tone feels uniquely refreshing in today's midsummer scenery. As a practical exercise of cosplaying my main hero, the accuracy of details will always improve through continuous review and attempts, and I hope to present a more breakthrough state next time in our Chinese-style cosplay and Anime-style photography.
