[Umaru cosplay] The Ultimate Slacking of Himouto! Umaru-chan: Eating, Drinking, and Having Fun During Daily life at home

Shooting this set of Umaru cosplay works is because her state of fully embodying the "slacking" life philosophy seamlessly connects with my actual Daily life at home. After finalizing the theme of Himouto! Umaru-chan, I wanted to recreate that quality of time filled with laziness, comfort, and a slight hint of tipsiness as much as possible.

For this shoot, instead of choosing a complex photography studio, we set up an indoor scene full of retro and Japanese otaku vibes. The old-fashioned CRT TV in the background, the wooden low cabinet, the bottled plum wine, and the plant specimens hanging on the wall all perfectly fit the setting of an anime home scene. Warm straw-woven tatami mats were laid on the floor, and sunlight streamed in from one side, creating that relaxed atmosphere of just getting off work on a Friday afternoon, closing the bedroom door, and wanting to do absolutely nothing.

Speaking of props, besides the large bottles of Cola and potato chips printed with iconic packaging, I actually prepared some other snacks and drinks. For example, that bottle of plum wine not only serves a decorative purpose but also represents an overly relaxed, "adult version" of an otaku attitude enjoying personal time in the frame. Holding a large bottle of "otaku happy water" in one hand and pinching a potato chip in the other, or simply biting down on one—these seemingly casual small actions are actually key to shaping the character's himouto attributes. During the shoot, the staff would suddenly hand over snacks to tease me, capturing my happy moments every time I ate snacks.

Regarding the styling, the orange long straight hair along with the adjustments to the eye makeup are important markers of recognizability. The outer orange plush hooded cloak is the core of this outfit; it is not only soft and fluffy in material but also provides a strong sense of wrapping, making people visually feel a comfortable, safe sensation of wanting to lounge around and stay still. The inner wear features a pure white T-shirt and pink short shorts, which, combined with a barefoot cross-legged sitting posture, completely maximizes the "homey feel." This outfit is not only simple and comfortable but also highlights the character's most relaxed side at home, completely freeing me from worrying about posture issues.

Many of the shooting angles this time are eye-level or slightly high-angle downward views, as if communicating synchronously with the audience who are currently binge-watching anime. Shots like the one where I am biting a potato chip and looking at the camera, or holding a big bottle of cola with a slightly dazed expression, are all intended to convey that casual "tomorrow's problems are for tomorrow" vibe in the photos. The photographer also understands this otaku mentality very well, not making me strike many forced poses, but instead capturing my authentic state during casual sitting, lying down, eating, and drinking.

For the overall lighting and tone, I specially requested a warm yellow color, similar to the sunset streaming into the room around four or five in the afternoon, which instantly brought out the retro and lazy aura of the photos. In handling the details of the wig, to make the orange long hair and hood pair together naturally, we also spent a lot of time managing the direction of the hair strands to avoid a messy look after putting on the hood.

After all, the charm of Himouto! Umaru-chan lies not only in Cute cosplay but also in the authenticity of shedding all external pressures and thoroughly enjoying junk food and lazy hours in one's own little world. Being able to materialize the happiness of being a "weekend home slacker" through this group of photos brings immense satisfaction.
