This set of convention photos for Nearl the Radiant Knight is finally sorted out. On the day at the Hangzhou Arknights Only 'Defending Glory' venue, we were truly shooting non-stop from morning until closing time—a huge drain on stamina, but after seeing the finished shots taken by photographer @Nord, every bit of hard work felt completely worthwhile.
Preparing for this Radiant Knight cosplay took quite a while beforehand. The layering of this outfit is exceptionally rich: the white capelet coat, golden metal pauldrons, and the arm armor structures take considerable time to put on. Securing the pauldrons in particular required the synergy of inner garments and harnesses to stay firmly anchored; otherwise, the slightest wide movement during shooting would cause them to slip. For the wig, long straight golden hair was chosen; to facilitate on-site shooting, I styled and trimmed it in advance to ensure the bangs wouldn't obscure my eyes in front of the lens. The beast ears and tactical headset on my head were also core highlights of this styling—combining these sci-fi industrial elements carried an incredible vibe, though because the headset wire was quite thin, I had to be careful during shooting not to expose the cable too conspicuously.
Cosplaying Nearl the Radiant Knight this time, the character's calm composure and knightly presence deeply resonated with me. While the golden hair and white apparel appear striking visually, the overall demeanor required strict expression control—staying composed rather than too animated. The first photo features a side-profile pose with an arm raised, a movement designed to showcase the black arm armor and chest harness details. The second captures a gentle touch to the headset; I especially adore this angle, as the side lighting struck the golden hair and pauldron just right, bringing out a phenomenal texture.
The convention venue environment was genuinely a test for photography. Most of the time, indoor lighting was chaotic and colors could easily get messy, but fortunately, @Nord is exceptionally skilled at discovering flattering angles and utilizing ambient light. When shooting the second photo, we leveraged the warm reflections bouncing off the background metal framework; paired with minor adjustments to my facial orientation, the overall chiaroscuro contrast felt remarkably pleasing. During on-site shooting, continuous communication with the photographer regarding poses and gaze delivery was vital—especially with armor gear carrying such a tactical aesthetic, where stiff posture could easily make the subject appear overly rigid.
There were countless Arknights players in the hall that day, and everyone was incredibly enthusiastic upon recognizing the outfit. When shooting outdoors, many fellow fans came over to take shared photos together. Although walking around in all this heavy gear was exhausting, communicating with so many people who share a passion for the same title made for a joyful atmosphere. The theme of this convention was 'Defending Glory'; the hall's ambiance and everyone's burning passion aligned seamlessly with the character of Nearl the Radiant Knight, helping me immerse into character much faster.
In terms of photography post-processing, Nord's color grading infused the frames with a sci-fi mood while preserving the cold firmness of metal and the warm ambiance of the environment. I cropped a few detailed close-ups, and the overall aesthetic aligns closely with my internal vision for this character. From fabric textures to light transitions, every single detail was handled with precision. Whenever the opportunity arises in the future, I will definitely continue challenging outfits featuring heavy armor elements and tactical gear—after all, every fitting and shoot is a heartfelt homage to the original work.
