[Eunectes Cosplay] When Ballet Pointe Meets Elf Ears: A Hardcore Posing Record

To take this set of photos, I signed up for an adult ballet class. Just as the title says, although my body is currently so stiff that I can't even split my legs, this experience allowed me to find a completely different state in front of the lens. Integrating ballet elements into this cosplay actually stems from my understanding of the character's temperament. It was very painful when classes first started; adult flexibility training is absolute torture. Every leg stretch felt like I was punishing myself, but to be able to stand in pointe shoes, even if just barely tip-toeing, made me feel the sacrifice was worth it. On the morning of the shoot, I even went to practice basic skills for half an hour, but my foundation is ultimately insufficient; those elegant extensions in the pictures would start trembling if held for more than five seconds during this session of Ballet photography.
The process of bringing out this costume was also quite bumpy; the wig needed its bangs re-trimmed to fit my face shape. The elf ears had to be fixed with glue to secure the elf ear look and prevent them from slipping off to affect the shooting progress. This lace and tulle dress is very lightweight but easily snags on small items in the environment. When setting up the scene, we specially chose a room with semi-transparent white curtains, utilizing natural light combined with a softbox to give the entire frame a soft and hazy atmospheric feel. The photographer constantly emphasized the expansion of back lines, especially the moment in Figure 3 where I adjusted my headpiece, showcasing the design sense of the bowknot lacing on the back of the costume.
Compared to the conventional styling of everyday shoots, this ballet-themed cosplay puts more of a test on dynamics and breathing. For instance, when standing in pointe shoes, one must keep the entire body tight to achieve that upright visual effect. Although we only used a few photos to freeze the moments, the physical exertion behind it was massive. That relaxed feel of leaning backward in Figure 4 was actually an unexpected reward captured by the photographer when I was utterly exhausted after shooting the first few frames. Yet this accidental movement happens to be closer to the soft and beautiful temperament I wanted for this Anime fairy style look.
Although I often joke about myself being too stiff to even split my legs and not suited for ballet, this attempt made me feel that cosplay itself is full of the joy of such cross-over endeavors. Deepening the presentation of a character's outward expression by learning dance is a very novel process. Perhaps in the future, I will try other shoots involving specific body movements to understand characters in different ways. Photos are static, but the sweat during practice and the pain of strained muscles are all highly real puzzle pieces in this memory.
