This shoot experimented with a dark Gothic style. As Reimu from NIJISANJI EN, putting on this black, white, and magenta color-blocked dress instantly gave me a ghostly sense of drifting outside of reality. There are actually many details in this outfit, such as the black French mini top hat paired with a white spiral headpiece, the shape of which perfectly fits this cold aesthetic. The magenta neckerchief and black mesh cuffs create a wonderful visual contrast, and paired with the multi-layered tulle skirt, it creates a rich sense of layering in the dark environment.
For the makeup, I intentionally switched to gray-toned eyeshadow accented with red at the outer corners of the eyes, paired with a fluffy silver-white wig. This kind of styling really tests the cleanliness of the base makeup, as it aims to simulate a vampire-like pale, translucent, yet sharp texture. The shooting venue was a vintage stone pillar hall with reliefs, where black tulle curtains were set up. Combined with a cool blue main light, it created a highly dramatic, gloomy atmosphere. As for props, scattered skulls and candles were used; the candles in the foreground, in particular, provided a touch of warm orange light that perfectly broke up the overall cold tone.
What I am most satisfied with this time is the close-up composition of the second photo. This angle perfectly showcases the outfit details and the character's unique slender bone structure. During the shoot, I adjusted to a posture leaning halfway against a stone pillar and cast my gaze slightly forward. The contrast between the black stockings and the skirt hem was also perfect, beautifully matching the touch of cool elegance and melancholy that this outfit carries. The extension of the stairs in the wide-angle composition is also great, but the close-up shot is more eye-catching, with well-balanced negative space at the top and bottom, and a very clear center of focus.
This outfit really depends heavily on the lighting. I particularly love that touch of magenta satin at the neckline; it takes on a velvet-like texture under the cool blue light, perfectly drawing the visual focus to the upper body. And the design of the skirt allowed me to wear black stockings underneath, which not only maintains the cool white tone but also adds a heavy texture to the details in the images. In the second photo, I intentionally propped my elbow against the stone pillar to let my body tilt naturally. This pose stretches the body lines nicely, revealing the outline of the legs beneath the skirt. The black stockings stacked with the white tulle skirt create an effect that is both slightly alluring and very aloof at first glance.
Actually, during the prep stage, I communicated with the photography team for a long time. We wanted to transform the original aristocratic feel of this venue into an eerie sense of decay. So we covered the carvings and windows with black tulle to restrict the entry of natural light, primarily using artificial blue light sources for top and back lighting. Along with those few scented candles in the foreground, I could almost feel the breathing space in front of the lens. Sharing this photo is also in the hope that everyone can experience this immersive ghost aesthetic through the screen.
The blue-black toned tulle drapery cascading down from the ceiling looked like the low-hanging curtains of a resurrected undead duchess. During the shoot, I needed to constantly adjust my gaze and micro-expressions—not too bright, but always maintaining a slightly detached temperament while still possessing an alluring quality that invites exploration. Every time I do this kind of Gothic style cosplay and dark style photography, I get completely immersed; from the texture of the garments to the atmosphere of light and shadow, capturing the character's soul is much more interesting than just taking pictures. Only by focusing on experiencing this environment can one bring out the melancholy and composure that belongs to this character.
