Shooting this outdoor set of Tsukishiro Yanagi, the core idea was to blend the character's "workplace capability" into the neon lights of the urban night. The white shirt as an inner layer, combined with a black bow tie and thin-rimmed glasses, are very iconic intellectual elements in this outfit.
The outer cyan and black-and-white color-blocked tactical jacket, along with a tactical waist belt featuring multiple buckles and ID cards, nicely supports the layering of the look. I particularly love these small accessories at the waist, like the tiny ID badge and the cyan ribbon below; when walking or striking dynamic poses, they add a visual sense of extension.
In terms of props, the black tactical gloves plus this long sword add a touch of sharpness on top of the intellect to the overall vibe. Although the long sword is prone to reflection during night street shoots and can even hit street lamps when swung, focusing on the blade creates a great texture.
For location scouting, we deliberately chose an intersection street rich in neon lights. The blue sign in the background, a circle of warm yellow street lamps around, along with the crosswalk markings on the ground, formed a very cyberpunk-style location. This dark tone combined with cool and stunning neon light actually fits the texture of the "urban disaster" background in the game itself, giving a feeling of executing missions after getting off work daily. The ground is red, forming a nice contrast with the black shoe soles.
Poses during the shoot actually took a lot of effort. What impressed me most was doing street photography in high heels while having to pose on one leg or squat, which required high core strength and balance. The poses in pictures 3 and 4—carrying the weapon on the back or turning back sideways—make the person's lines look more tense and dynamic.
In interpreting the character, she needs both the composure of a superior and the decisiveness during combat. Glasses not only serve as an iconic accessory, but the action of pushing up the glasses also brings out the detail of her being the "Deputy Chief". During the shoot, I tried to keep my gaze focused, incorporating that feeling of "majesty without losing charm" into the lens.
These street lamps and cluttered lights and shadows captured match the vibe of Tsukishiro Yanagi patrolling the blocks daily very closely. When the wind blows, the pink braid on the side flutters along, adding a touch of dynamic beauty to the static frame.
The use of props also involves many details. For example, in the one-legged standing pose in picture 5, to maintain the shape of the skirt hem, I tried many angles repeatedly. Regarding the holding angle of the weapon, during front-facing shots, care must be taken not to obscure the body's contour lines. This sword is indeed quite heavy, and reverse-holding it with one hand really tests wrist strength. To express that effortless feeling, I needed to consciously relax the shoulders and upper body muscles, otherwise it would look stiff and tense.
Glasses are prone to reflection in night scenes; missing street lamps often requires adjusting head angles to avoid shadows. Interestingly, when street lamps shine on the lenses, they occasionally refract a slightly metallic-textured glow. This accidental light and shadow is actually more realistic than artificial lighting.
The shooting team helped a lot with lighting; red side light hit the character, cooperating with the neon blue-green, forming a very nice high-low contrast color temperature. This not only highlighted the vibrant colors of the clothing but also made the night outlines clearer.
Regarding the understanding of the character, I don't think she is a purely ruthless type, but rather carries a touch of real-life texture. This street, this crosswalk, is the area of her daily commute or patrol, so I hope the photos taken have a genuine sense of daily life rather than a floating staged pose.
The design of the outfits and actions is to restore that pretty and capable agent vibe. The tailoring of this outfit is very neat and won't look bloated, but this also places higher demands on the performer's body shape and posture. I'm trying to make every movement natural and stretching. This is the street photography share this time, hoping to bring this sense of atmosphere belonging to the night and the city to everyone.
