This dark leather styling of Yor Forger is considered one of my most satisfying works recently. A lot of thought went into it from costume selection to final makeup and shooting. This time shooting convention photos at the anime convention site, I chose this matching outfit with a strong functional sense and dark style. The main body of the costume is a black glossy leather dress; the strap design on the chest and shoulders is a highlight, which can break the dullness of the large area of black while increasing the layering of the styling. A black choker with a metal pendant was worn around the neck, matched with a golden headband and floral hair accessories, restoring the character's original setting while adding a bit of cold and glamorous visual impact. To be honest, the upper-body effect of this outfit is very demanding on body shape; in order to perfectly support this tight-fitting leather material, I adjusted my posture quite a bit beforehand.
During the shooting process, what surprised me the most was this pair of over-the-knee high-heeled long boots. The mesh hollow design on the boots greatly lengthened the leg lines, and paired with the annular straps at the thighs, the sharpness of the overall styling instantly increased. However, high heels are indeed a big challenge when posing, especially the actions of stepping on a chair with one leg and leaping into the air, which require core strength to hold steady, and a slight carelessness will cause a loss of balance. In order to restore Yor's stern, agile, and dangerous state during combat, I deliberately restrained my smile in expression management, trying to focus my gaze with a certain sense of oppression. The two golden ringed short baton props held in the hands reflected a weak metallic luster under low-light environments, and with the side-backlight specially arranged by the studio, the blade-like sharpness came out.
Special thanks to professional photographer Qingfeng Photography V. In the dimly lit convention venue, we found a relatively open area with depth in the background. He cleverly utilized the on-site light and shadow, controlling focus and depth of field to blur the messy background cleanly, making the character subject fully stand out. When shooting action scenes, the timing of the snapshots was extremely precise. Whether it was the dynamic tension when wielding weapons or the static oppression sitting on a high stool, every composition placed the character at the visual center. We communicated many details about angles and aura presentation during the shoot, such as how to turn sideways to better showcase the luster of the leather, and how to lift the leg to look cool without seeming deliberate.
In terms of post-processing color grading, Qingfeng Photography V and I reached a consensus to overall darken the ambient light, enhance image contrast, and highlight the highlight texture of the leather fabric. Due to the reflective characteristics of the leather clothes and long boots, special attention was paid to the retention of highlight areas during post-processing to avoid loss of details caused by overexposure. This set of pictures is not only a display of clothing, but also an external projection of the character's inner world. The contrast between Yor on the coffee shop side and the battlefield has always attracted me, and this dark styling happens to visually amplify her cold side as an assassin. From the completion of makeup to costume wearing, and then to the repeated deliberation of every action, the whole process was exhausting but full of fun. I hope this heartfelt presentation lets everyone feel the unique charm of the character itself.
