These convention photos of Momoka Hanyuu were taken at the Guangzhou Firefly ACG Expo. Under the scorching sun, we scouted the outdoor grounds of the exhibition center for quite a while before picking this relatively clean backdrop along a crosswalk. The outfit is a coral pink corseted gown featuring cross lacing and an oversized bow across the bodice, spliced with puffed sleeves at the shoulders. The tiered skirt features outer peach-pink ruffles over an inner white petticoat, trailing a sweeping white gossamer train behind. To complement this styling, I wore a wavy pink wig accented with a crimson floral knot at the side, layered pearl necklaces around my neck, and carried a magical wand detailed with gold rings and star motifs.
The gear used was a Sony A7M4 paired with a 35-100mm lens. The outdoor convention grounds were chaotic, so this focal range was perfect for using the telephoto end to compress the background, eliminating crowds and cluttered commercial signs. To keep the framing clean, I had the photographer squat low for an upward angle, pushing metal railings and trees deep into the background to produce natural depth of field. The white zebra stripes and the horizontal bars of the railings served as natural leading lines, preventing the composition from flattening out.
In the first photo, I stood in three-quarter profile with one knee slightly bent to let the skirt billow out, resting the wand against my chest with the other hand draping naturally. This pose effectively lengthened leg lines while showcasing the layered contours of the corset and skirt. In the second photo, I faced the lens directly, reaching one hand forward in a peace sign while raising the wand slightly higher—a livelier gesture with stronger interactive charm. Controlling exposure amidst harsh, high-contrast sunlight is the trickiest part of convention photography; I asked the photographer to dial down exposure compensation slightly to preserve the rich coral pink of the dress, fine-tuning highlight roll-off in post to prevent facial wash-out.
Red Mary Jane shoes paired with white lace ankle socks finished off the styling; the red footwear resonated with the hairpiece and chest bow for unified color harmony. Under bright sunlight, the textile radiated a delicate satin sheen that caught the eye immediately. Even though these are older archive photos, looking back today reveals that the sunlight, lighting angles, and framing were spot on. The true appeal of convention photos lies in capturing authentic live energy and adapting on the fly; this set managed to turn impromptu convention hall shots into something genuinely polished and refined.
