Taking advantage of the nice weekend weather, I headed out to the coastal boardwalk to shoot this Arknights Rosa cosplay. From picking the location to assembling the props, the process took about two weeks. While seaside backdrops are quite common, stumbling upon the yellow-and-black caution bollards and this green traffic signal offered an interplay of colors that harmonized wonderfully with the visual tone of the attire.
Sea breezes were especially fierce on shoot day, blowing the wig into tangles nonstop. Keeping long, silver-white wavy hair smooth and voluminous is surprisingly tough outdoors, so I carried along hair oil and a comb, pausing every few poses to smooth down the sideburn locks. For today's makeup, I went with a clean, translucent style, wearing blue contact lenses to complement the cool tones of the costume. I was very pleased with the fidelity of the outfit details: the white collared shirt paired with a broad blue-striped tie carries a flattering drape, which, combined with puffy sleeves and golden buttons, feels crisp and structured. The red and blue striping along the skirt hem also stays true to canon design. The white lace-up tall boots on my feet certainly elongate leg proportions, though one must tread carefully on wooden planks to prevent surface scuffs.
The two teddy bears in hand served as the core props for this shoot. The large bear has substantial volume, so holding it with one hand while posing demanded noticeable arm strength—especially when striking that saluting gesture, where the left hand had to keep the bear from slipping while the right hand stayed steady. The large bear's brown plush fur looked lovely and warm in natural sunlight, which, together with the tag on the smaller bear's ear, dialed up the cuteness. Throughout the shoot, I kept a firm grip on the bear's arm, terrified that a strong gust would send it flying into the sea.
When the signal light turned green, the illumination cast across the white shirt looked absolutely gorgeous, so I seized the moment to capture several candids right beside the traffic light. In front of the camera, I continuously contemplated Rosa's inner gaze and presence: her subtle contrast between a calm, cool exterior and an innate playful innocence needed to be delicately channeled through expressions. Facing the lens, I softened my eyes as much as possible, letting the plush companions help convey that gentle desire to share playful moments with others.
Throughout the entire shoot, the trickiest part was honestly the steady stream of passing pedestrians, forcing us to pause and wait between takes. Yet reviewing the finished frames, seeing the curve of the skirt lifted by the ocean breeze against the clean railings and open sea, made every bit of preparation and patience worthwhile. The fabric breathed reasonably well; although long sleeves can get warm during summer, the breezy seaside made it quite manageable. If I return here next time, I might consider an evening shoot to capture night aesthetics using the traffic signal as a creative light source for a fresh visual mood.
