Today, we wrapped up the official Asuka Cosplay photoshoot for Neon Genesis Evangelion at Daxigou Metro Station, finally bringing this long-awaited casual everyday look to life. I was in front of the camera, and Xingqi was behind the lens. We chose this venue because Daxigou Metro Station features clean architectural lines, with raw concrete pillars and glass curtain walls perfectly complementing this cool-toned aesthetic. While this outfit seems casual at first glance, conveying that nuanced sense of detachment requires real expressive control before the camera. The vibrant orange-red wavy hair and red hair clips directly recreate the character's signature features. Wearing a white long-sleeved top with pale pink stripes paired with deep blue athletic shorts, I specifically coordinated pink-and-white horizontal striped over-the-knee Stockings and black leather shoes to add visual dimension. Slung with an army-green canvas bag and holding a pink earphone case, the overall styling came alive with sculpted depth in this Anime-style photography set.
The shooting process was genuinely engaging. The corridor shot was captured from a downhill vantage point, using the receding perspective of the railings to pull out spatial depth, where a natural pose of standing sideways and glancing down at my phone aligned seamlessly with the composition. Midway through, to achieve the completely symmetrical reflection shown in photo three, we searched for ground reflections for a long time, discovering that only the floor adjacent to the glass curtain wall was pristinely clean. Crouching down and hugging my knees, the pink-and-white striped Stockings formed a striking contrast of light and dark against the dark shorts, which—amplified by the floor reflection—produced a stunning visual effect. For the minimalist frame in photo four, backed by an expansive grey-blue wall, I sat perched on a white crossbar with hands resting on my knees, accompanied by a folded white origami heart beside me. Utilizing generous negative space to accentuate the subject while gazing directly into the camera, we tested multiple angles before finding the perfect compositional balance.
For the close-ups, we relied extensively on natural light to capture fine details. The gesture in photo five—reaching a hand out the window—was designed to convey a feeling of spatial extension, while the green foliage outside was softened into creamy depth of field so the frame didn't feel static. In the final photo pinching a fallen leaf, the white sleeves and fabric folds harmonized gracefully with the peripheral tones of the frame, concentrating visual focus on my fingertips and the leaf. Throughout the entire shoot, the texture of the pink-and-white striped Stockings remained an eye-catching focal point in numerous compositions, serving as one of the quintessential visual trademarks of Asuka's casual styling.
Reflecting on the shoot itself, Daxigou Metro Station proved far better than anticipated—peaceful, quiet, and free from passing crowds. We traversed different levels to chase the interplay of light and shadow, using subtle fill light to counter the dim overhead metro lighting and make my skin and fabric textures pop. Because the character has a unique psychological depth, maintaining that confident, subtly guarded gaze in static shots is essential; it doesn't require grand gestures, relying solely on stance and eyeline to command the atmosphere. Finishing this set granted me a fresh appreciation for casual styling set against a sci-fi backdrop.
Huge thanks to photographer Xingqi for running all over the station and capturing these perspectives, and kudos to Xiaosi (myself) for persevering through this creative vision. While there are still areas to refine, combining all intended environmental elements and character emotions into a cohesive record is deeply satisfying. The material of these Stockings produced slight specular sheen under direct light, so next time I might opt for a more matte finish. The ambient light around Daxigou is at its prime around 4:00 PM for outdoor shooting, and we certainly caught the perfect window today.
