[Seira Orimoto cosplay] Christmas cosplay Starlight in Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch

Celebrating an early Christmas, sharing some Live Photos to feel the dynamic motion. These were actually shot two weekends ago during a group photoshoot with everyone, and the atmosphere was wonderful. This time I portrayed Seira Orimoto cosplay from Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch in a festive Christmas costume, and the red theme fits the holiday vibe perfectly.

I put a lot of thought into the hair and makeup. Because the orange wig naturally brightens the skin, it has high demands on skin tone, so I chose a porcelain foundation shade and did thorough concealing. The eyes are truly the soul of the whole look: I wore brown contacts and dramatic volumizing falsies, specifically separating the lower lashes into defined clusters while layering highlighter on the aegyo sal, making the eyes appear round, lively, and just like an anime doll before the lens.

For the outfit, the red choker and halter top serve as the core pieces, accented with an orange fuzzy trim along the neckline that adds a warm, cozy winter cuteness while echoing the wig's color. For accessories, I picked a white seashell necklace and yellow teardrop earrings—subtle details that elevate the character's fidelity.

Due to the chilly weather, to ensure photo quality we shot indoors using warm fill lights, pairing a red backdrop with the orange wig for bold color contrast. Sharing Live Photos feels magical because, unlike static retouched images, subtle motion better preserves the genuine mood and spontaneous expressions of that moment. The joy of a group shoot with friends is reminding each other about composition and posing, as we explored many actions fitting the Christmas cosplay atmosphere.

Styling the bangs also took quite some effort. To flatter the face shape, I curled the bangs into a natural curve which, combined with the long side locks, visually sculpts an inverted-triangle contour. This set was shot with a 50mm prime lens, a focal length ideal for mid-body close-ups that preserves crisp sharpness while providing creamy background bokeh to highlight the subject. As for the eye makeup, I adjusted it several times because the placement and length of the lower lashes drastically alter the expression—even a slight difference shifts the entire feel.

The post-processing strategy leaned toward warm, slightly retro film tones. Since the red Christmas outfit and orange hair are inherently vibrant, warm filters better foster the festive holiday cheer while keeping the skin looking translucent. Live Photos actually have high lighting demands; the lighting we chose was nicely diffused, highlighting the plush fuzzy textures of the clothes. The group shoot set was bustling with everyone bustling around fixing outfits and wigs, but the rhythm was wonderfully upbeat. Even though we celebrated Christmas early that day and felt the genuine chill of winter, everyone was thrilled with the results.

The resulting palette and ambiance convinced me that picking a red backdrop was the right call, infusing the frame with warmth. As a cosplayer dedicated to recreating 2D characters faithfully, every costume is an attempt to capture the original essence. This Christmas cosplay costume includes numerous accessories; while the fuzzy collar looks charming, wearing it got somewhat warm, but for the final shot, that small tradeoff was totally worth it. Switching to a long red velvet textured fabric as a backdrop also introduced rich textural contrast.

Live Photos capture fleeting head turns and blinks, making the imagery feel truly alive. I have a deep bond with Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch, and portraying a beloved character this way was a special experience. Minor hiccups on set, like flyaway wig strands or lifting lashes, were smoothly handled by friends. I hope this photo set brings a warm festive touch to everyone who loves Seira or the songs from the series. While the final retouched photos are still in progress, these animated snippets are already something to look forward to.
