Putting on this tactical gear and picking up Mai Xiaowen's exclusive configuration, at this moment, I am the special operator in Delta Force ready to charge at any time. This costume has a lot of details. The silver-white short wig paired with side braids is not only an iconic trait of the character but also very sleek during the actual combat shoot, ensuring it doesn't block my vision. The black tactical mask and half-finger gloves are truly the core items that elevate the overall aura. Paired with the military green tactical chest rig, black leather pants, and platform combat boots, it balances mobility with a hardcore tactical aesthetic.
This shoot took place at an offline convention venue in Chongqing. The lighting on-site was quite complex, but we utilized the top light from the exhibition hall ceiling and a smoke machine to create a very cold and ruthless battlefield atmosphere. The photographer is great at capturing dynamic moments. From holding a gun on alert and dagger parrying to solo guarding, we intentionally avoided conventional rigid posing. Especially within the thick smoke, utilizing the camera's shallow depth of field to blur out the weapons or arms in the foreground perfectly preserves the gaze and equipment details. This composition blending reality and illusion fits perfectly with the competent and calm image of the Delta Force operator in my mind.
Walking around the convention for these convention photos actually demands a lot of physical strength; the boots are heavy, and I have to maintain a tactical posture at all times. But once I immerse myself in the character, I naturally maintain a sense of focus. When holding a tactical dagger and firearms amidst a scene interwoven with crowds and smoke, the realistic feeling of crossing the dimension barrier is incredibly intense. This is also the charm of on-location cosplay—bringing a flat character to life through specific props, settings, and on-site improvisation. Even in an ordinary venue, as long as you make good use of mediums like perspective and smoke, you can still shoot a cinematic texture. I hope this set of photos allows everyone to feel the decisiveness of this character.
