[Reimu Hakurei Cosplay] Winter Blessing of Touhou Gensokyo: Convention Photo Record

The design core of this winter Japanese-style winter outfit fantasy style costume lies in using red-and-white and blue-and-white as the two main color palettes to present a winter blessing vibe of Gensokyo. The bow and white pom-poms on the head are not just decorations, but also the key to balancing the overall visual center of gravity.

When creating this costume, I focused heavily on the use of plush materials. The wide, warm-textured plush cuffs and skirt hem naturally wave as I walk. Combined with the tassels at the bottom, the entire character appears exceptionally light. The main part of the costume uses fabric with large-area intricate floral patterns, which look beautifully layered under the bright lighting of the convention venue. Paired with high-heeled ankle boots, it not only relieves the visual bulkiness brought by thick winter clothes but also visually elongates the lines of the lower body, making the overall proportions look much more coordinated.

The lighting on the day of the shoot was incredibly translucent. The photographer chose to capture candid shots from the side and front alternately, utilizing a wide aperture to blur out passersby dressed in various winter clothes behind me. The folding fan and the rod with white paper shide in my hands were the most core interactive props. The swaying of the shide between movements brought a light rhythm, while the folding fan provided visual accents from different angles. In the standing photos, I intentionally shifted my center of gravity onto one foot, letting the other leg naturally curl backward slightly. This allowed the thick skirt hem to present a slightly raised A-line shape, while the ankle boots and part of the leg lines were beautifully revealed, adding a touch of playfulness to the overall winter outfit.

For some of the photos, I chose to sit formally or squat down. In this sitting posture, the heavy skirt hem could completely spread out on the smooth floor, where the intricate floral patterns and the short tassels at the bottom formed a cool-and-warm visual contrast with the reflective floor. This low-gravity movement kept the character looking lively even in static frames. My makeup also intentionally highlighted the eyes, using colored contacts and eyeliner in the same color scheme as the main outfit, combined with long straight black hair and bangs, making facial features much sharper to quickly grab the lens's focus amidst the noisy convention background.

Compared to daily clothes, this fantasy-style costume requires much more preparation time, especially for securing the headpieces and storing the props. With crowds surging on-site, every time I crouched down and stood up again, I had to readjust the skirt hem and the tightness of the belt. However, this authentic interaction with the venue's environment added to the life-like atmosphere of the photos. I didn't want to present a rigid studio-shoot effect; I prefer showcasing the character's state among the crowds. Looking at these moments recorded by the photographer, I feel that every slightly tilted head angle and the dynamic movement of waving the shide perfectly preserved the atmosphere of the moment. This was also the focus of my communication with the photographer during early preparations—preserving the on-site light, shadow, and natural demeanor.

When organizing these convention photos, I noticed that the plush fabric easily presents a soft silhouette under specific lighting, which is why I love choosing these looks in winter. Through costume details, headpiece coordination, and the choice of boots, the entire look carries the depth of a fantasy theme while retaining the girlhood liveliness she should have. I place high value on the genuine sense of interaction during every shoot; instead of posing rigidly, captured candid actions always have the most vitality, and this relaxed state of presentation is exactly the feeling I have always pursued in 2D Cosplay.
