This styling is the black and gold themed adult version Anya cosplay specially prepared for the 15th anniversary of Firefly ACG Expo. To ensure the quality of these convention photos, the shoot utilized the Godox V1 on-camera flash throughout to assist with lighting.
For the character of Anya, her childhood traits and goofy charm from the original SPY×FAMILY are her signature trademarks. The challenge of this adult version lies in how to showcase a mature woman's elegance and dark charm through the tailoring of the outfit and the adjustments of makeup and hair, while retaining the character's core recognizability. I chose a long pink wig paired with black fuzzy beast ears, which both echoes the character's original attributes and creates a visual contrast with this black and gold high-slit gown.
The overall texture of the costume is the top priority of this design. The black off-the-shoulder straps and metal buckle design on the upper body, adorned with gold trim, give the outfit a very rich sense of layering. To perfectly present this layered texture, using the Godox V1 on-camera flash in photography was an extremely wise choice. In an outdoor convention environment where the light is complex and natural light is often unpredictable, an on-camera flash can precisely control the lighting ratio. Looking at the final photos, the highlights illuminated by the flash on the black satin fabric fully reflect the smooth luster of the material, while the translucent texture of the lace gloves, the reflection of the patent leather high heels, and even the edges of the metal accessories are sharply defined under the outline of the flash, avoiding the blurriness that easily occurs in soft light environments.
To make the styling fit the maturity represented by the "adult version," the stockings for the lower body were chosen as wide-band over-the-knee black long socks, revealed through the high-slit skirt. When sitting down on the yellow bench in front of the booth, extending the legs forward or slightly crossing them can nicely display the overall body proportions. The Godox V1 was positioned at about forty-five degrees to the side-front, which not only illuminates the face evenly to make the skin look transparent, but also leaves no ugly, harsh reflections on glasses and metal parts, making the transition of the overall contour light very natural.
The live atmosphere at the 15th Firefly ACG Expo was incredibly enthusiastic. Although the sultry environment of a summer convention is quite a test for anyone wearing such heavy performance costumes, every enthusiastic response from the crowd when passing the booth, or the moment seeing fellow fans raising their cameras, makes all the preparation feel worthwhile. While shooting near the booth, I also met several photography enthusiasts. Everyone exchanged insights on using portable flashes like the Godox V1 in a convention setting, which gave me more on-the-spot inspiration for posing and composition.
In terms of props, I held a long, slender golden rod as an embellishment. This elongated prop can nicely guide the audience's gaze during composition and increase the overall tension of the action. Whether it's a front-facing sitting pose looking into the lens or a slight head turn to look to the side, it echoes the slightly mysterious aura that this outfit aims to convey. This unconventional character derivative styling not only tests one's understanding of the original work but also tests whether the hardware equipment can keep up with the on-site expression. Thanks to the equipment support from Godox Photography, allowing us to shoot such high-textured works even amidst a chaotic convention background.
